The main hall was empty when Anna sneaked passed it to rush to the stairs. Out of breath and sweaty, the girl ran as fast as she could up the staircase. Thankfully the nighttime security measures had not taken place yet, which meant that the head of the House teachers were still counting the students. Anna hurried with all the strength she had and barely pronounced the password to the Fat Lady portrait. She went through the door and found everyone was still gathered, while professor McGonagall and Hermione were counting the fifth years. Neville almost screamed in surprise when he saw Anna standing next to him and she silenced him with a gesture. He nodded in understanding.
"Where were you? We were worried sick you know" he whispered in her ear.
"I'm sorry I got carried away. Please don't tell" Anna whispered back and Neville shook his head affirmatively. She thought it was very sweet of him to care for her whereabouts. He was a good friend. McGonagall started counting the heads of the sixth years. Lucky for Anna, she did not seem to have noticed her absence earlier. When she left the Gryffindor common room and most students went to their beds, Anna's friends stayed behind to scold her for her absence and find out where she was. Anna had to keep her promise and lie to them, telling them she met the centaurs and got caught up in a conversation.
"My question is, why did you attend that stupid care of creatures lesson in the first place?" Ron asked and Hermione slapped his shoulder softly.
"Ron! That's not the point! You could have been seriously hurt Anna, Hogwarts is not as safe as it used to be" Hermione reprimanded Anna like she was her mother. Harry and Seamus stayed silent, but Neville carried on where Hermione had left of.
"Yeah Anna, honestly, who knows what could have happened to you? Dangerous times these are" he said looking concerned.
"Stop it guys, what matters is that she's safe and here with us. We've all been getting carried away sometimes" said Ginny and Harry smiled, showing his agreement.
"Thanks Ginny" Anna sighed relieved they would stop interrogating and rebuking her, so she could go to bed. She had a long day to say the least.
"Yeah but surely as her friends, we shouldn't be encouraging her straying too far from the castle" Dean argued frowning, resulting to an abnormally irritated reaction from Ginny.
"Gosh, Dean, give us some space to breathe, will you?" The focus got instantly shifted from Anna to the couple, causing awkwardness in the group. Anna stepped between them.
"Guys! Everything is okay. It's not something I usually do, I just got distracted. We're all safe and thanks for your concern, it means a lot to me. Now, can we go to sleep? I'm knackered" she said calmly and Seamus chuckled.
"Someone has been practicing her British slang!" he said and Anna tucked a strand of her behind her ears.
"Shut up, Seamus" she said with a soft giggle. They were all about to head upstairs, when Ron clicked his fingers together.
