Draco's heart beat fast in anticipation, as he opened with trembling hands the letter an owl had just delivered to him. It had his house's crest stamped on it. He only hoped it was from his mother saying everything was okay. His eyes immediately went to the bottom of the letter to find the name of the recipient. It was his mother. Tears of joy filled his eyes, being glad she was safe and could write to him again. There was an accident and the owlery caught fire without anyone noticing on time, so all the owls had escaped and returned days later. His mother had to send their house elf to buy a new one and that's why there was a delay. Draco was feeling like he was having a massive weight off his shoulders and that gave him strength to start his day and go out to face the world again.

Draco had spent his last few days recovering properly from the severe burnout he had put himself in. He wanted to keep working on the cabinet, as being stagnant was killing him. However, his body had been craving for his attention and for a few days, all he could do is just feed and rest. Just enough until he was strong and confident to keep going again. He still refrained from attending any classes. It was not physical weakness and lack of concentration that had prevented him to do so. His mind and body recovered fast with the help of potions, good food, plenty of water and sleep. The reason he was delaying to go back to his routine, was having to deal with seeing Anna again. Anna looking after him was the most intimate moment Draco had ever experienced in his life. And then all these sweet moments with her would turn bitter in a heartbeat, seeing that Irish vermin having his lips on her, in the same way Draco had his a week ago. Finnigan's hands were all over her. And she was not resisting...Draco had been working through his emotions a lot, with Myrtle's help, but he was not feeling ready enough to see her yet. Or Astoria.

He was dreading the possibility of Astoria talking to him

He was dreading the possibility of Astoria talking to him. Draco had exposed a lot of his feelings about Anna in front of her and he was certain she would be theorizing about them. Last time Draco and Astoria saw each other was on Saturday. After witnessing Anna being kissed by another guy, they both made their way back to the castle, remaining silent the whole time. Draco was hoping that Astoria would get the idea of him liking Anna out of her head, as he could not trust that Astoria's intentions were pure. If he had the chance to erase her memory too, he would have without blinking twice. Truth be told, she has proven herself an ally in many situations, but it takes more than a few nice words and gestures to make Draco trust that she will keep his secrets. And these secrets can never be revealed to anyone.

It was not as if Draco had any delusions that he could ever be with Anna. And she herself had made it clear that she did not even want to spend time with him anymore. But Draco had already been trying to keep his emotions contained for so long and seeing someone else kissing the girl he could not have, really hurt. He played these moments in his head non-stop, trying to process his emotions. And, to his surprise, he did so successfully. For the first time in a while, he had found clarity, which had been very liberating. He had been visiting Moaning Myrtle daily, when not many people were roaming about. Talking to her helped him process his emotions better. Pansy was never there to listen, even for the matters that did not concern his mission or Anna.
