"Gallant"

"It's locked." I said. "It was open last time." I tried turning the door handle once again, but to no avail.

"We'll get in." Mike reassured. "Just move aside, okay?" I did as he asked and took a moment to compose myself. I was shaking like a leaf. Gosh, I really was as they a "scaredy-cat." I shut my eyes for a moment and let out a shaky breath before my gaze landed on Mike unlocking the door.

"Luckily I have a key, a perk to working here." Mike said as he lifted up the key to my view. "Now," he started before turning the knob to the door and pushing it open slightly. He glanced in the room and nodded before opening the door wider. "It's safe. No bunny."

He walked in and I hesitantly followed. He made sure to close the door behind him. "I might have been panicked when I looked in here, so I wasn't really able to actually look-look." I told him as I glanced around the room.

"Alright. Well, we can now." He responded. "If you see anything that might give us a clue show me, alright?" I nodded. Of course I would. He didn't need to tell me.

I paced around the room, I looked in every nook and cranny I could find, but to no avail, well until I found a very familiar brooch. I hadn't paid any mind to Avery's attire, but I did remember the bunny brooch she had upon her hair.

She really was here.

"M-mike!" I called out turning to him. He looked right back at me. "I found something that belonged to the little girl, Avery." I went over to the area he currently was in and showed him the brooch.

"Anything else?" He asked.

"Unfortunately there wasn't anything else I found." I said in defeat. This wouldn't really help, but tell us she was actually here. It didn't tell us whether she was alive or not. It didn't tell us her current location.

We'd either have to keep looking or just give up. And I was not going to give up. "I'll keep looking." I told him and did exactly that.

My eyes landed on a piece of paper I hadn't noticed before. I was quick to pick it up. "I found something." I said as I opened the folded piece of paper.

It only had four words

"Avery," "Tonight," and "Night shift."

I read it aloud.

"It must be that bunny's doing. He wants you here later tonight." Mike said slowly. "It's probably a trap, but this might help us find Avery."

I couldn't muster up anything to say. I didn't want to go, but I needed to go. Frustrated I ripped up the damned paper and fell to my knees. "Why is this even happening! Why did I have to be brought into this!" I almost yelled angrily.

"I know how you feel, but calm down. We'll figure this out and we'll get Avery. Just have hope." He tried to reassure. It might have worked if I wasn't so worried.

All I could say was okay. I didn't know what else to respond with. I let out a shaky sigh and glared at the flooring.

"I'll go. I have no choice."
