Lily and Normita Goodbyes

Lily stepped softly into the quiet, dimly lit room. The faint hum of machines filled the still air, mingling with the sharp scent of antiseptic and the soft trace of Mini's lavender lotion. Her small frame trembled as tears traced warm lines down her cheeks. She climbed onto the bed, sinking into Daddy's warm, familiar hold.

"Daddy, I love you from the moon and back, and I will never forget you. You'll always be in my heart. I promise to help Mommy Mini, and Normita will always know about you."

Oscar's fingers, cool and gentle despite his weakening strength, traced slow, soothing circles on her back. His own tears fell silently, warm drops against his skin.
"Baby, Daddy loves you so much. It hurts Daddy to leave you. But listen—I'll be there in your heart for all your graduations, your wedding, when you have my first grandbaby. I'll be there when you're in pain, and I'll always be with you."

With effort, the rasp of his breath filling the room, he lifted himself as much as his frail body allowed. Pulling Lily close onto his lap, he held her tight, as if trying to shield her from a world he wouldn't be part of.

Normita crawled forward, tiny hands grasping the soft blankets, her baby breath mingling with the quiet beeping nearby. Mini gently set her down beside them. The almost one-year-old pointed with wide, curious eyes at Oscar, her voice trembling but clear: "Daddy!"

A sudden flood of joy lit Oscar's tired eyes as he scooped her gently into his arms.
"Oh, sweetheart, you finally said your first word. Daddy will always love you."

Mini settled beside them, the warmth of her presence grounding the fragile moment. They sat together, wrapped in stillness broken only by the soft rustling of hospital sheets and the distant hum of machines. As Oscar's strength faded, Lily pressed a tight hug against him and planted a gentle kiss on his cheek, her shampoo scent faint but comforting.

His voice, faint but steady, drifted through the room.
"I love you, baby. I'll see you both soon."

Mini's Goodbye (Mini's POV)

His hand patted the space beside him with a faint, tired rhythm. I lowered myself carefully, careful not to disturb the fragile balance of cords and tubes. The cool oxygen mask brushed his warm skin as I placed it gently over his face.

Oscar rested his head on my chest, his breath shallow but steady. I stroked his back slowly, feeling the delicate rise and fall beneath my fingertips. Tears spilled down both our cheeks, mixing with the faint saltiness of the hospital air.

A nurse quietly checked his vitals, the soft beep of the monitor steady but somber. She shook her head at me with gentle sympathy.
"He's getting weaker. He told us that when it gets to the point he's almost gone, he wants the machines off—just you two."

Oscar met my eyes and nodded. Together, with the nurse's careful hands, we removed the machines, leaving only the soft hum of the heart monitor and the occasional pulse of the blood pressure cuff.

We moved him to the bench he requested—the quiet corner where he wanted to say goodbye.

He settled between my knees, his head heavy but trusting on my chest. I kept rubbing his back, the steady motion the only comfort left.
"I love you with all my heart, Oscar Raymond. I'll make sure our girls never forget you. We've been together since I was 18—on and off—but we always came back. You were my first love and my last. You gave me three beautiful children."
