Telling The Truth

This is the day I tell her.

*Beep beep beep* I wake up to the blaring sound of my alarm. That sound haunts me, I swear. Turning over to my warm bed I see Regina's back to me. "Hey beautiful"

"Goodmorning I'm surprised that you're up normally. I'm dragging you out of bed."

"I didn't really get much sleep so it wasn't as dreadful today."

"That's why you were tossing and turning all night. I thought that was happening when you stopped spooning me"

"Yeah, I'm definitely going to have a lot of coffee today."

She gives a kiss on the lips "Let's get ready so we can have breakfast together."

Regina gets in the shower and I go downstairs to make us breakfast. A few minutes later Regina comes down in the new outfit that she bought when we were in Boston.

"Well hello Madam Mayor, you are looking extra sexy today," I say seductively

"Why thank you, sheriff, breakfast smells amazing. I can't wait to eat it."

"I hope you like it, Let's eat." Me and Regina are eating our food and talking about the baby.

"So what names are you thinking about?" She asked

"I honestly don't know yet, I've been thinking about some but they just don't feel right. Do you know what I mean?"

"I get it. I want our son to have a good name."

A few more minutes pass by and we finish our food and I clean up the dishes. Regina has a puzzled look on her face. "What's wrong?"

"Aren't you going to get ready for work?"

"No, I'm actually taking some time off."

"When were you going to tell me?" She says crossing her arms.

"I don't know I wasn't thinking about it."

"So you weren't thinking about telling me about you not going to your job. How long are you going to not be going?"

"I few weeks."

"A few weeks! Emma, I thought you were going to say a few days. What the hell is going on with you lately?"

"I just need to take a break, get my head straight before our son comes into this world ok."

She puts her hands on my cheeks and puts her forehead on mine "Are you ok Emma be honest with me."

"I don't know, I don't want to talk about this right now you have to get to work. I promise that we'll talk about it when you get home"

"You promise?"

"Have I ever broken a promise to you?"

"No," She says with a smile on her face. I give her on the lips and say bye to her when she walks out the door. It's a nice day. I think I should go out on the boat today to clear my head. I get in the shower and get dressed. Instead of my usual dress shirt, I decided to wear a black t-shirt with a flannel over it with jeans. After I'm done I get in the car and drive to the docks. Being on the boat really relaxes me. It lets my mind go free and helps me let go of my sadness and worries. I start to think of my son when I'm out on the water. The thought of him makes me smile. I want him to have the best life and experiences. My first kid, that's really crazy to think about you know. I made a life at twenty wow never thought I would say that. After a while, I decided to go get lunch from Granny's because I felt like having a soda and a burger. I hadn't been there in a while. When I get there I make eye contact with Ruby and she comes over to me and gives me a hug. "Hey, Emma it's so nice to see you. You haven't been in a while. It feels like a lifetime since I've seen you."

"Yeah, I've been really busy lately."

"I've seen you at the docks all the time after my shift ends."

"I didn't know your shift ended that late"

"Yeah but it's fine I don't mind. So what's up with you?"

"Um, I'm having a kid."

"What! You knocked up the mayor."

"Jeez Ruby, keep your voice down the whole town doesn't need to know yet."

"Sorry I'm just excited, what are you having?"

"A son," I say with a smile I love saying that.

"Well, congrats dad to be."

A chuckle "Thank you" I order my food to go and head off to the house to eat. That burger was so good I had to take a nap afterward.

I guess I was asleep for a long time because I heard Regina come into the bedroom.

"Hey, baby how was work?"

"Ugh very long and tiring. What did you do today my lover."

"I just went to the dock and caught up on some sleep."

"I'm going to put on something more comfortable and then we can talk about what's been going on with you lately"

"Ok."

She puts on a pair of my Calvin Klein boxers and one of my old band t-shirts.

"So what's up Em," She says sitting on the bed.

"Well, I haven't been happy for a while. I don't really like my job or this town. I've been depressed for the past few months. The only time I feel happy is when I'm with you and when I'm talking to our son."

"Wow, Emma I'm so sorry I didn't know."

"It's ok I didn't want you to know but I want to be better for you and our son."

"What do you want to do."

"I'm going to take some time off from my job and consider if I want to continue being sheriff. I'm going to go to therapy and work on myself for a while. Maybe plan a lot of things for the baby like doing the nursery and buying stuff."

"That sounds like a solid plan. I'm glad you're working on your mental health. I love you, Emma"

"I love you too Gina and I love you, my little man"

"Haha, you love talking to our son."

"I sure do."
