Thursday really just couldn’t wait to come and boy, did it arrive fast. I was in school, waiting for the line to get in the bus with my bags clinging on each hand. I was at the far end of the line, the last one, since I woke up late. Mrs. Johansen was checking the attendance of those who will attend the field trip as the students one by one shove their stuff in the compartment of the bus and climbed in.
A hand stopped me from entering; it was Mrs. Johansen’s. I stared up at her in confusion. Am I not allowed to enter the bus? Is she expecting me to sit at the roof top? Or does she want me to cling on the sides of the bus? Does she want me dead?! I started freaking out in my little paranoid head.
“Kate I’m sorry but all the busses are full. Someone had a last minute submission of their form.” She gave me an apologizing smile. “You’re the only remaining student and we couldn’t hire another bus just for one person. And I can’t let you take my seat in the bus since well, you are students.”
I understood her last line. We were pretty much reckless. I frowned. She really wants me to hang on the sides and be crushed to death.
There were about three busses and each bus has their own chaperone although from what I know, five teachers are chaperoning. Maybe Mr. West can hang on the sides and die? I grinned at the thought mentally.
“You were also at the last of the line so we couldn’t just let the last minute student be left here.” She continued. “Each bus needs to have at least one chaperone and Ms. Fletcher’s got some emergency she had to immediately attend to so she isn’t here. You could’ve taken her spot but another last minute came up with the other busses.”
So only four teachers and Mr. West is still here? Yeah, he can hold on to his dear life at the sides of the bus when we go to the beach.
“Mr. West isn’t even here yet.” I heard her mutter. “He too doesn’t have a seat.
Great, so we can both hang on to our lives later. Just great. Suddenly, the sound of a car’s honk sounded from my back, scaring the crap out of me. Jeez, that was loud.
“Wait, he’s here, I’ll tell him about the problem.” I followed her and saw Mr. West who grinning like an idiot. Wait, he is one. They started talking for a few moments with Mrs. Johansen stating that he doesn’t have a spot in the bus anymore, forgetting me.
“I can just drive there.” He suggested as Mrs. Johansen nodded and as if a light bulb lighted in her head, a smile slowly crept out on her lips.
“I have an idea Mr. west.” She started. “Since it is you and Kate over here that doesn’t have a spot, why don’t you take her there since you are driving there?”
“Sure.” He grinned. I groaned. Not like I have any other choice.
“That’s wonderful!” she clasped her hands together and trotted off to the busses where I could see girls from the inside of the busses gaping at me, at my ‘lucky chance’. Lucky chance my ass. I heard some noises from the busses from the girls stating that I could have their places and they’ll sit with Mr. West. And he chuckled.
Mr. West turned to me, a wide grin on his face and took my bags and flung them in his car. If something breaks there, he’s paying. Not like you have anything fragile there. True that.
“So, you again huh?” he teased.
“Sadly.” I muttered but my insides were screaming THANKFULLY AND HAPPILY.
I followed him to his car, grimacing but smiling inside. I heard a loud groan from my suppose to be bus as I climbed in. I smirk mentally. They’re jealous I get to ride with Mr. West, alone. My insides were like high and giddy and I really wanted to laugh for no apparent reason too.
