“Get in the bus.” Mrs. Johansen said to the student in front of me.
We are currently going in the bus and back to St. Jude’s before we, the students and teachers return to our respective homes and do whatever we wanted.
“Dear, I think you should stay with Nathaniel, you two went here together, right?” Mrs. Johansen suggested to me which I consider is a death choice.
Before I could even argue with her, Gail was on my side and she spoke up, “We can change seats for the ride back home Mrs. Johansen.”
“I agree with Gail.” I seconded the motion almost too instant when Gail finished speaking. She shot me look but then smiled back to Mrs. Johansen.
“Let me ask Nathaniel.” Mrs. Johansen said, scratching the back of her neck.
“Don’t bother!” I said to her rather cheerfully, well faking it anyway so that nothing is suspicious. “I’m sure he won’t mind, thanks Gail!” I waved to them both happily as I dashed up to the bus and sat beside Dylan.
He raised a brow at me but shrugged when he saw his sister go with their cousin and inside his car. I sighed in relief and mentally thanked Gail in my head for switching with me. I couldn’t bear to sit beside Mr. West; I might claw his eyes out of anger.
I closed my eyes, ready to fall into a peaceful bliss since the sun barely rose up and I didn’t have a good night sleep.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Today’s Sunday and I am officially a legal adult and one thing that must’ve slipped my mind was that my dad is coming for my birthday. A wide grin broke out on my face as I continued jumping, eager to see my dad.
My dad may have another family to support be he visits me during my birthday and on Christmas Eve, certainly he couldn’t leave his daughter hanging. The only thing I got curios about is that how the hell he knows where we moved? I haven’t got connections with him and as far as I know, neither do my mom and Aaron.
The doorbell rang and I was out to my feet, dashing through the living room and to the door in my pajamas and a pair of my favorite blue fluffy bunny slippers. The door revealed my dad in a suit, still looking great as ever with a huge smile all over his face. I squealed and jumped to hug him. I’ve missed him so much.
“Happy Eighteenth Birthday Kate.”
“Thanks, dad.”
After the hug, I yelled through the house, my voice so loud I’m not surprised even if India heard me. “Mom! Aaron! Dad’s here!” I engulfed dad with another hug. Surely he could sense how much I’ve missed him.
“Princess, shh.” He placed his index above his lips in a shushing gesture. “It’s still too early.”
“I don’t think seven in the evening is considered too early wherever you stay, Christopher.” I heard my mom’s voice and both my dad’s and my head turned to see my mom and Aaron walking down the stairs, ready to leave. Mom was in a black off shoulder dress that reached just above her knees and hugged the lower part of her body. Aaron was in a suit as well with a blue colored tie.
“Ah, Jane and Aaron.” My dad gave them each a hug. “How are you?”
“Fine, Thank you for asking Christopher.” My mom replies. My mom and dad are cool with each other now, and I have no idea how they do it. It’s like they never got married and had a break up.
“And you Aaron?”
“Also fine Christopher.”
“I never knew you could clean up, Aaron.” I joked at him, seeing his usually messy hair neatly gelled. “That’s something you won’t see everyday.”
