It was already late afternoon. Mr. West and I were still talking in his room in Luke’s house and no, we are not making out or having sex. We were just plain talking like what I had planned on my birthday which to say is nothing.

After Luke managed to embarrass us enough for a whole year, Mr. West dragged me up here to avoid his best friend. At first I thought he wanted another round of what we did, but to be honest I felt awkward. Maybe because I like him and we are still friends with benefits. Supposed to be no strings attached but I guess I couldn’t follow that rule.

“So um Kate.” Mr. Wets called me, his voice’s tone were nervous for some reason I don’t know. “Can I know now about the second scar?”

I shook my head in response. I am not yet ready for this. The only people who knew about my second scar were Aaron and mom. And I don’t have any plans to expand the list.

“No, just not now.” I told him, my voice soft and quiet.

He nodded, understanding why I didn’t want to say anything about it.

“Mr. West?” I called him but he didn’t answer. I’m sure my voice is loud enough for him to hear. “Mr. West?”

He remained silent, completely ignoring me. Ah. “Nate.”

“Finally” he sighed and looked at me.

“Sunday…”

“Your eighteenth birthday…”

“Well, we’re having dinner and my mom wanted to see you again so uh…” I started, stammering. “I was hoping you could come, you know, for my mom’s joys.” And mine.

He smiled at me, not one of his usual smirks but a genuine smile. “I’d love to.”

“Bring Luke too. I’m sure Aaron and I will be bored soon after you and my mom start talking.”

“Am I boring you Ms. Ellison?”

“No not at all. It’s just that, you know. Old people talk.”

“You’re calling me old?”

“Yeah. Bring Luke, don’t forget.”

“You barely met the guy.”

“So? He’s fun and annoying at the same time so why not?” I shrugged. “Promise me you’ll bring Luke?” I rose up my pinky in front of him.

He chuckled at me and my childish actions. “Aren’t we a little too old for this?”

“Promise me.” I said stubbornly.

He smiled and hooked his pinky with mine. “Anything for you.” He whispered on my head, the words barely audible.

“My mom and Aaron owes me twenty dollars.” I announced suddenly, showing a smug smile. I am now forty dollars richer.

“You made a bet?”

“Yep.” I grinned. “They didn’t think I could invite you over and I already did. They owe twenty, each.” I grinned like an idiot. I am now forty dollars richer. “Make sure you two come on Sunday, if not, you’ll owe forty.”

“What? Why me?”

“My forty dollars will depend on you.” I smirked. “Aren’t we supposed to go back now?”

“Oh yeah.” He scratched the back of his neck and stood up. He offered me a hand which I gladly took and pulled me up. “Let’s go.”

I nodded and followed him out of the room and down where we found Luke sulking on the couch, his feet on top of the coffee table with a small tub of ice cream in his right hand and a slice of cake in the other.
