if you think something may be a lie, can you still believe it?
i'd say yes.
there are lies i've loved so dearly that i could not let them go without first rubbing my palms raw.
my favorite has always been "everything happens for a reason."
or perhaps the one where God exists and loves us.

these two i want so desperately to believe, but as my eyes open wider i see that the leap of faith is nothing but a raging sea at the cliff's edge.
you didn't see it before, but those who jump are certain to drown, unless the fall kills them first.

hope keeps us alive, but the loss of it skins us from the inside out until we are torn and aching for something we can never have: the truth.
age has pried my eyelids open, against my best wishes to keep them closed.

note to self: when they say ignorance is bliss, believe them.
do not question things or else you can never stop questioning.
