The first day at his new school was not bad for Jim, he met Jenny-and that was pretty much it. The coming days were just as eventful or uneventful until one day in the third week when as he was going to the classroom, Jim was confronted by three boys-fat boys.
"Hello monkey!! Don't you greet your elders?!" Simoni, their leader yapped.
"Nah...I don't speak gorilla"
"Hahahaaa...Simoni, he just called you a gorilla" laughed Ed, the stupid one.
"Shut up Ed...and you kid, who did you just call a gorilla?!"Simoni inquired as if he didn't know.
"The gorilla of course..."Jim replied.
"Well congs kid!! You just earned yourself a beating..." said Yetir, the muscle. And so the three fat boys prepared to start beating Jim. He had to think fast, would he run?! Would he fight?!
"Boys...you would be wise to ignore...kid, what's your name?!" a new and bigger stranger boy said...asked.
"Jim..." Jim answered.
"Yeah...it'd be wise to ignore Jim and walk away..."
"Or what?!" asked Simoni, the leader.
"Or...I'll beat y'all up" the bigger strange boy replied and he didn't seem to be bluffing. The three boys understood that he was not joking but walking away was not an option so, they stayed attacked him all at once. This fight looked like a miss match from the onset and so it was-just not the way it seemed. The strange boy beat the three fat bullies effortlessly kicking or pushing whoever attacked him while taking care not to leave any evidence or physical injury on them. Eventually, the three fat ones realised the rift in strength and ability-they ran away.
"Thanks for helping me out" Jim said to the stranger.
"No problem...I was just having a little fun anyway" the stranger replied
"Yeah...I could see that..."
"I'm Henry...by the way" the stranger said as he offered his hand.
"Jim...nice to meet you Henry"
Jim felt something weird when he shook the strange hero's hand-it was like some kind of war of opposing forces. In fact, the hands seemed to be repelling each other. The stranger was Henrick Wilflock, there was really nothing outstanding about the guy except may be his enormous build and the wicked smile he often wore. Almost nothing was known about the other Wilflocks and it was rumoured that he was the only living one.
"Mr.Creed...you are late!!"Ms Helen told Jim as he moved to his seat
"I'm sorry...Ms Helen, it won't happen again" Jim replied.
"I'd really like to believe you but this is not the first time you are saying that!!!"
"It's the last time..." Jim said with a smile.
"I hope so Mr.Creed..."
Jim had become one of Ms Helen's favourite students for no reason in particular considering he never really got the best marks and he was often late for her class. Anyway, we all never really need a reason to like someone-we only seek the reasons after we find out that we do.
"Yo Jim, have you heard about a vicssorn?!" Jenny asked him when he had hardly sat down.
"A what?!" Jim exclaimed with legitimate shock, he had not just heard about the vicssorn, he had seen and touched it-he just didn't expect anyone else to have heard about it.
"A vicssorn, some sort of alien rock that can melt your skin." Jenny explained.
"No...I've never heard of it and I doubt there's anything like that." Jim lied.
"It's real...I've read about it..." Jenny insisted.
"Yeah...and I bet Rapunzel and the tooth fairy know about it too." Jim mocked
"Mr.Creed and Ms Dalevez, would you like to share whatever you are talking about?!" Ms Helen interrupted the developing argument.
"No...Ms Helen" Jim answered swiftly.
"Then keep quiet and pay attention!"
At the end of the lesson, Jim was still feeling a bit uneasy for trying to get Jenny off the right track. He excused himself and went to the washroom. In the washroom, he opened the tap, poured water on his face and watched the drain out of the sink as he thought. On looking up into the mirror, he saw two reflections one was lightly blue and the other very red- just like the two objects. The blue reflection was in fact his and when he turned he learnt that the red reflection was Henry's. Of course he was scared but he just greeted Henry and practically ran out of the washroom back to his classroom. In the washroom, Jim had been considering telling Jenny the truth about the vicssorn in fact, he was still thinking about it.
"Jenny, how do I look?!" Jim asked.
"I don't know...pale...ordinary...why do you ask?"
"Just want to know what you think" He replied. It was at this moment that Jim decided he would not tell Jenny a thing about the vicssorn. If she couldn't see anything, there must have been a very good reason. The rest of that day could not move fast enough for Jim but eventually after a long wait, school ended and Joy picked him up. On reaching home, after thanking his aunt, Jim rushed up to his room. It was only once he was in there that he realised that what he needed was not in the room-the sword was back at his parents' home in Ekitone. Frustrated, he sat down on his bed rubbing his hands through his hair and wishing the sword could somehow teleport to his room. Still in this state, he fell back on his bed and felt a hard object under his back. He got up to better see which object it was. It was the sword. Jim had questions that could only be answered by one person-Xlam. Without wasting anytime, he got the sword, put both thumbs on the vicssorn and thought of a place...the only place he could.
When Jim next opened his eyes, he was back in the white place. Everything was white including his clothes. Everything was the same as the last time except one thing-there was no man in the corner!
"Hellooo!!!" Jim shouted but only echoes responded.
"Xlammm!!!" again he shouted and again, only echoes replied. He gave up and decided to head back home. He put both his thumbs on the vicssorn and thought of his room. On opening his eyes, he was not home; he was outdoors in a place he did not know. Ahead of him were many hills countless in fact; one after the other up to the limit of the human eye. Behind him was a huge structure built like a church and pretty old, the most captivating thing about the structure was the fact that it had neither windows nor doors!! Jim's clothes (the school uniform complete with a tie and a sweater) had returned to their true colours. Again, he put both his thumbs on the vicssorn and thought about his room. It didn't work. He tried it very many more times and it did not work!! Being only a human, a boy at that, he was overcome by fear. For a moment, he froze and all kinds of negative possibilities ran through his mind-what if he never went back home? What if he died in this strange place? What if he never saw his family again? Then that moment ended and he made a decision, he would go beyond those hills and find the answers- a way to get home.
