Chapter 14

"Oh, hi Tiara. How long have you been at the mastery for?" I asked, unaware what to say because of her fathers words before. "Hmm, I have been here for over 4 years now. For each year you stay as a master, you get this black line on your hand, symbolizing your loyalty and dedication to this place. These marks will occur every year until you are 18." she said, while showing me the 4 lines on her hand. "Oh, by the way, if you are new, don't pick fights. Make other people like you, not fear you." she continued. I thought about what she said, while nodding as a response. This advice seemed fair, and lived in. Maybe she made the same mistake I was about to?"That's sound advice. Thanks." I said. "Come, let me show you around." Tiara said, shaking her head to the sheets covering the doorway. I just shrugged and started walking to that direction.

"So, who all do you have a mental connection with Syl?" she proceeded to ask. "Well, Jaime, my dad and Orvax" I replied, quickly wondering whether I should have left out her father. "Oh," she said,"You have a connection with Orvax? Wait a second!" she said as she stopped walking. "That makes you the -" she suddenly stopped, as if waiting for me to say it," The Chosen One, yup" I said. After she found out that I was the chosen one, she started acting more enthusiastically about everything. She was about to go tell the entire block D when I stopped her and said," Maybe it would be better if they didn't know. It will be easier to get my revenge tomorrow. After that, they themselves will understand who I am " I said, prolonging the inevitable. We passed the kitchen, the mess hall, then the block A, B, C quarters. They all looked the same. Dull, but with a toughening atmosphere. The only joyous sight around the whole half an hour walk I took with Tiara was her being happy to have become friends with the chosen one. She did not need to say it. The smile on her face which wasn't there the two times I had seen her before, was quite enough.

As Tiara and I entered block D, I suddenly remembered that Jaime was also supposed to come with us. I looked at our bunk, and he was still not there. I quickly excused myself from Tiara, and ran off to find Jaime. I could vaguely here Tiara's voice saying "Wait, there are creatures here at night, be carefu..." Creatures? What did she mean by creatures? I turned the corner to see Jaime, but he was running. I shouted out " Dude why are you running?" He cried back "MONSTERS!", and as if on cue, three giant green figures, with large wooden spiked clubs turned the corner at the other end of the passage and continued their chase on Jaime.They were running as fast as their fat and disfigured bodies could go. They were slow, but big, making up for the lost speed with bigger strides. Jaime passed me and shouted, "RUN", and I did so, wasting no time. Good thing I ran immediately, as I looked back to see one of the large spiked clubs lodged in the ground, right where I was standing a few seconds ago.
