"Rough night?" Steve asked as I took another gulp of the vodka in my hand.

"Can't sleep." I mumbled.

Steve sighed heavily, plopping down next to me as our legs dangeled over the roofs edge, the scenery of the forest in front of us adding more to the seclusion we all felt. It had been twenty three days since Thanos. Twenty three days since we lost a lot of good people. We still didn't know where Tony was and we were all starting to come to terms that maybe he was dusted.

Pepper started taking up residence in the compound, settling in Tony's room. Pepper was distraught over the entire thing. How could she not? I didn't blame her for the way she was acting, she was engaged to Tony fucking Stark. That name in itself said enough.

"Mind if I have a drink?" Steve asked shyly.

I took a swig, wiping my mouth off with the back of my hand, "Gods righteous man wants to participate in the act of sin?! The world really has ended."

Cap playfully rolled his eyes and grabbed the bottle from me, taking a swig and grimacing at the taste, "It's happy hour somewhere."

I let out a small laugh, taking the bottle from him, "In Russia, when Nat and I left, we took down the red room but there was this man. Taskmaster was what he called himself.. anyways, I, uh.. I killed him."

"Was he going to kill you?" Steve asked although both of us knew he already knew the answer.

I nodded, taking another swig and handing him the bottle, "He was going to kill all of us. I couldn't let that happen and I was so blinded by rage that he took Nat away from me. I had to kill him, Steve."

"Killing doesn't always make you a bad person, y/n."

"I killed the sinister six but that doesn't haunt me like this does. His blood was on my hands, I saw how weak Natasha was. I wake up and I have blood on my hands and no matter how hard I try, I can't scrub it off. It won't go away." I swallowed thickly.

"You thought you lost Natasha, losing a loved one is traumatic enough. Maybe you're just scared because you have deeper feelings for her than just love. She's your weak spot and your weak spot was exploited by an enemy. We're known to the world now, more so than we had been back when Bucky was-" Steve cut himself off with a sigh and took a bigger drink of the alcohol, "You've lost a lot in your life. If you lost Natasha I know you wouldn't come back from that. Maybe your mind is just playing tricks on you and using your fear against you."

I nodded, letting his words sink in as we finished off the rest of the bottle. I was feeling a little tipsy and I think Steve only had a buzz.
The cool breeze wafted over us and I enjoyed how far away we were from the city to not smell the pollution or car exhaust. I set the empty bottle down between us, Steve and I falling into a silence, enjoying another's company.

The bottle next to us began shaking. The trees in the forest across from us also began to shake and rattle, a blinding yellow light flickering in the sky. Steve and I exchanged a look, rushing off the roof and into the compound, seeing the others rush to the backyard.

We all watched as a woman dressed up in a red, blue and gold suit, slowly descend to the ground as she landed the quinjet. The hatch opened and Tony and a blue and purple woman walked out.

Steve and I rushed towards Tony, the weak man stumbling a bit and I helped keep him up.

"Thanks, web head." Tony gave me a weak smile, "Peter's going to love you."

I furrowed my eyebrows, wondering who this Peter kid was. I would ask about that later.

"I couldn't stop him." Tony shook his head at Steve.
