I rang Haley back at half past one while I was walking to the bus station to get to work.

‘Oh my God, about time! I was about to come over and beat information out of you.’ Haley squealed as soon as she picked up. I let out a laugh and sat down on the bench to wait for my bus.

‘Sorry.’

‘Don’t hold out on me, Emmy. I want details. You didn’t tell me Justin was that hot I mean damn.’ Haley gushed.

‘We hooked up,’ I confessed.

‘I knew it! Oh my God, tell me everything. Was it awkward this morning? Are you going to see him again?’ She shot questions at me and I waited patiently for her to finish.

‘He left before I woke up-‘I started.

‘What? He’s an asshole, Emmy! Why are the hot ones always such dickheads? It’s okay, Em, you got back on the horse and now we can look for a better guy. You may have to lower your expectations though, I highly doubt you’ll find a guy that hot again.’ Haley grumbled and I came to the conclusion she had had too much sugar this morning, or had Callum round last night.

‘Haley,’ I laughed. ‘He had work early, he left a note. He said he’d call later, he even took the-‘I caught myself before I told her he took the handkerchief. That was the only way I was sure he would actually call me again, but I couldn’t tell Haley that because it would be obvious that Justin was Phantom. I supressed a groan, this was getting complicated already.

‘He took what?’ Haley asked as I stood up, seeing my bus approaching.

‘Um, he took my, uh, underwear.’ I blurted out and making a face to myself.

‘He took your underwear?’ Haley repeated slowly. ‘Um, that’s kind of weird. You’ve only been on one date.’

‘Yea, well, there had to be something wrong with him, huh?’ I chuckled nervously, passing the bus driver the money for my ticket.

‘I guess.’ Haley mumbled. Great, I had already painted Justin to be a weirdo.

‘Anyway, I’m sure he’ll call.’ I sat down on the mucky bus seat, fairly close to the front. I grimaced as it was still warm from the previous person, I hated that.

‘Okay, so anyway was he good?’

‘He was amazing. I ached this morning!’

‘Emmy, I’m so jealous.’ Haley sighed and I grinned.

‘You should be.’

‘So you’re sure he’ll call?’

‘I’m sure.’

He didn’t call. Justin didn’t call me all week. I remembered giving him my number sometime after our fourth beer but he had yet to use it. After my shift on Tuesday I shrugged it off, maybe he was busy? Wednesday I started to get antsy, trying to push away the urge so that I wouldn’t keep checking my phone to see if I had missed him, despite the fact my phone hadn’t left my side apart from work.

Somewhere around Thursday evening I grew irritated. Why would he say that he would call if he wasn’t going to? I mean, if he didn’t want to speak to me again, don’t set expectations. It’s just made him an asshole and I had Haley looking at me like I was about to break because I was disappointed. I mean, it was one date, two if you count the time at the bar, and a night of amazing sex. We didn’t owe each other anything, he could do whatever he wanted and so could I but I had really thought he would call.

As Haley picked me up to go the race Friday night I had accepted it. Why would he want the cow when he had tasted the milk?

‘Well at least you can get your mind off Justin by trying to figure out who Phantom is.’ Haley said, pulling into a space.
