"That... that was amazing! Where did you learn to do that?" I swivel toward the voice and scowl.
"What're you doing here? How'd you find me?" Himari just smiles while handing me a piece of toast. I take it and take a bite. I feel like burning it but I don't trust myself with my fire for the moment.
"My gift allowed me to find you. Fire emits light so it was too easy. But that shroud of darkness! That was you right?" I nod and finish the toast. I want to be mad at her. I want to pry into her mind and make her forget what she saw if I could.
But something stops me. I guess I knew all along she'd learn at some point but I'd hoped it wasn't so soon. Just because we'd known each other for a month didn't mean I fully trusted her yet. I just trusted her more than others.
"I'm not going to tell anyone or make you do anything to keep your secret. You don't show your darkness for a reason but I guess your reason is good if you can control it that well. But those flames will need to be contained. I can help if you want. Light and fire work together. If your blaze becomes too wild again I can just direct it to the light and make it extinguish. That way you can learn more safely without having to show your darkness. That's how you saw Lora and Thylli right? And how you went from inside the room to outside while I was taking a shower. That's quite a gift you've got. What's it's real name?" I just stare at her with all her questions. She hadn't rambled like this for ages.
I start laughing and she looks at me curiously. I must look like a madwoman.
"You're not nervous about my gift are you?" I say teasingly. She shrugs.
"It's pretty powerful. Kinda like that movie in the Rec-room. In the movie there was of a guy with both ice and fire powers. He was really powerful. He used his ice more but melted the ice with his fire." Himari's smiling and looking a little like a fangirl.
"Well, I guess that's kinda like my gift then. But you can't tell anyone about this okay? No one can know I have more than one gift. Or rumours will start and..." She shakes her head.
"I'm not going to tell. There's no reason to. It's your secret and you have good reason for keeping it. If you want it to be kept, I'll abide your wishes." She smiles and I let out a breath of relief.
I sigh and look at the sun. It's shining brightly, almost above us. By the looks of it, I'd guess it was about 11 o'clock.
"You should eat more than a piece of toast before lunch. At one I'm meeting Lora, Thylli and a guy called Caspian for joint training. Wanna join us?" I ponder the offer. I needed training and if I could gain information on these guys then I could use it in the comp.
"I'll come. But don't expect me to be best friends immediately with them." Himari smiles and nods.
We start walking toward the school and Himari takes my hand. I'm surprised but I don't let go. She feels a bit like a lifeline right now and I'm thankful for the rope.
"You can count on me Eraeya. I'll always be here for you."
