[CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN]
—
"WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING AWAKE?" asked Emma as she walked into the dorm with a vase of flowers. She had walked into the dorm room to find Odette frantically looking under her bed.
"I can't find it," said Odette as she ran a hand through her hair. Her fingers got stuck in the tangled mess and she yanked her hand out of her hair.
"Find what?" said Emma as she placed the flowers down beside Naomi's bed.
"Nothing really, forget about it," said Odette as she opened up her drawers.
"Is it your bracelet you're looking for?" said Emma as she undressed.
"My bracelet?"
"I've just noticed it's been missing on your wrist the past few days."
"Missing?!" Odette whipped around to look at Emma before she looked at her wrist.
"You didn't know?"
"No!"
"I'm going to go sleep in a friend's dorm, will you be alright alone?"
"Will you really?"
Emma nodded.
"I see. . . have a good night."
"Yes. . .you too. I hope you find whatever you're looking for."
"I hope so too," mumbled Odette.
She waited until she was sure Emma had walked away to continue her searching. After digging through the depths of her unorganized mess, she finally found the book she was looking for. It was loosely bound by a thin string. She almost forgot what she needed it for as she stared at it.
When Regulus asked for the book back, Odette didn't know what he was planning to do with it. So, she decided to write down what she thought was important. It clearly proved to be worth it as he never returned the book.
Odette flipped through the pages until she found the page she was looking for. She traced her finger through the steps.
The door swung open.
"Hey, Odette! We're starting a book club, want to join?" asked Xia as she stood by the doorway. Odette closed the book and turned around.
"No, I'm alright."
"You sure? It'll be fun!"
"I'm sure, Xia," said Odette.
"It's your loss. We're out of here very soon and you haven't done one interesting thing — what are you reading?"
"Huh? Oh nothing — Xia!" exclaimed Odette as Xia ripped the book out of her grip.
"Merlin, is this book from ancient greece? It's so messy."
"Xia, can you give it back?"
Xia gasped, "Is it your diary? I'm so sorry."
"It's not," said Odette as she reached for it. Upon Xia hearing that it wasn't her diary, she pulled it back towards her.
"Oh then, there shouldn't be a problem with me reading it."
"Can't you go to your book club? You're being a little annoying right now."
"Just a little?"
"A whole lot."
"That's fair."
Xia opened the book to a random page and shut it, she threw it at Odette. It landed beside her legs.
"You're still interested in such an old theory?"
