[CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN]

"I WANT COFFEE," groaned Mei after Odette said she forgot to order her coffee.

"There's tea," said Xia as she passed by and opened the refrigerator.

"I don't want tea!" snapped Mei.

"I just said there's tea, no need to get mad," said Xia with a glare as she got out the milk and closed the door to the fridge.

The door to the front house opened and they could hear the happy babbling of Rosie.

"Hua?" called out Xia, "Is that you?"

"No, it's dad," Mei rolled her eyes.

"I will make coffee and spill it all over you while it's still hot if you don't shut your mouth," said Xia as she slammed the glass cup on the counter. The milk spilled. Odette jumped away from the counter.

"Wrong!" called out a male voice, "I'm your favorite brother!"

"Wait — Lyn?!" exclaimed Xia as she abandoned her mess and ran out of the kitchen.

"You're our only brother-in-law," said Mei, "We have no brother to compare you with."

She got up and trudged over to the living room, Odette followed out of pure curiosity. She peeked out to see a man with Rosie. He was neatly dressed, yet he still managed to look like a mess.

"Get over here, Mei!" he said as he pulled away from Xia and dragged Mei into a tight hug. Mei didn't pull away, but she didn't hug him back either.

"Oh, Odette! This is Lynwood, Hua's soon to be husband and the father of the little two troublemakers," said Xia.

"Excuse you, my children are angels," said Lynwood.

"You keep telling yourself that," Xia giggled, "Anyway, Lyn, this is Odette."

Odette waved, "Hi."

"Hey!" He said, "I've heard a little about you. I don't know if the same goes for you."

He outstretched his hand and Odette shook it.

"I have."

Only if hearing about his strange family counted.

Rosie said some sort of babbling as she leaned over and placed her hand on Odette's cheek. Odette smiled as she reached over and grabbed Rosie's hand.

"Hi, Rosie, how are you today?"

Rosie giggled as Odette released her hand.

"Where's Emery?" asked Xia, "I mean I know you love your daughter, but he's your son too."

"He's with Hua," said Lynwood, "And shame on you, I don't have favorites."

"That's what they all say," said Xia.

"Have any of you visited the or—"

Odette never got to find out what he was going to say as the door opened and Liu walked in with a person she had never seen before.

"Od — Lynwood!" said Liu as she stopped walking, "Why you look awful, dear! Was causing hearing loss not good enough to satisfy you?"

"Nice to see you again, Liu," said Lynwood, "I'll let you know that it was a lot better than having to be in your presence. I simply returned for Hua."

"Yes, now she's leaving," said Liu, "That girl. . .I told her over and over again. She is a mother now, she can't do as she pleases, but did she listen to me? No, they never do. Let's see what she says when her children grow up to hate her."
