A/N: Hi! So obviously I did not create THG, all rights go to Suzanne Colins. My characters however, are created by me and some of the plot. Thanks for choosing to read! Hope y'all enjoy.

A/N 2023: I've been seeing some comments lately about who Katalina is as an overall person lately, and I want to remind you all to please stay patient with her. There's a reason I created her the way she is, and I think character development is very important in books. Please keep this in mind as you continue to read throughout my three books. Thank you.

The Hunger Games

I never thought I'd have to be a monster. But I come from District Two. I'm destined to be one.

It's recognized as one of the wealthier districts, which only serves to boost everyone's egos. You see, the people here are, fucking assholes. They're conceited, self centered, arrogant - they'll do anything for their own gain.

They'll do anything to succeed.

My home is where most of the Peacekeeper's are trained. Life here in two is extremely strict. They push discipline down our throats, forcing us to train every day. There's always been a 'no mercy' rule when it comes to training.

You never give mercy to the weak ones.

You enjoy the easy kill.

You celebrate when you win.

It makes me sick to my damn stomach. Never give mercy? You're killing innocent human beings. Enjoy the easy kill? Why kill at all? Celebrate when you win? How does someone celebrate when you just killed five innocent people?

Our district is sick. They raise robots.

We go to school like average kids, but we go to school to learn to kill. Each year starting with five year olds you get taught something different up until we turn eighteen. We're basically bred to win these games. And I hate every single part of it.

Most people in this district only care about being the best at everything, just so they can boast about it to their best friends. That's all anyone does around here, brag to their friends about how talented their kid is, or how much money you have.

I'm nothing like anyone around here, I mostly keep my mouth shut about my difference of opinions. I'm already known as the quiet girl around here, I definitely don't need freak or easy target added to the list.

My parents seemed to pick the luckier straw out of the bunch. They were the district doctors, my father starting the practice and soon meeting my mother who joined him. They traveled around the district for years, helping the sick when needed. They even went to work in the capital for a while, in President Snow's mansion.
