Narrator's POV
Cato hoisted Kat up onto the cornucopia, she reached down and grabbed both of his hands. He kicked the side as she struggled to lift him up. Her muscles in her biceps shook at the weight underneath her.
"We really should've thought this through," Cato shouted over the barking dogs. Kat attempted to pull Cato up with all her might. While Katniss and Peeta were too busy running for their lives to see that the pair from two were on top of the cornucopia. Kat managed to pull Cato up just enough so that he could swing his leg to climb up there. Kat put her hands on her knees as Cato stood up.
"Maybe try to loose a few pounds," Kat teased. Cato chuckled, she was the only girl that could make him happy in a moment like this. They stayed low near the tale as Katniss and Peeta got closer. Peeta had a limp, just like Cato did.
The cornucopia was the only way to stop the mutts from tearing their bodies limb from limb. Peeta struggled to keep up with Katniss, but once they finally reached the cornucopia the pair helped each other up.
Cato didn't wait, he's been waiting too long all this time for the girl on fire to be in his vicinity again. This was his chance. To go home with the girl he couldn't stay away from.
Cato tackled Peeta to the ground, while Kat watched nervously from a distance. Katniss jumped on Cato's back pulling his head back as he tightened his grip around Peeta. Cato threw Peeta against the hard metal, hearing a huge thud. And he threw Katniss off his back, and she slammed against the surface. Cato held her against the side and had his hands around her throat. She gasped for air as the dogs stood up and clawed for her head.
Peeta shook it off, as he was slightly dizzy. His eyes set on Kat, who was to scared to do anything in the moment. His attention turned towards the nails on the metal. Peeta tackled Cato to the ground instead of going after Kat. Katniss gasped for air and stood up, with her back to Kat. Now, this was Kat's chance. Kat quickly stood up and ran towards the girl on fire. She couldn't let Cato down again. She tackled Katniss to the ground, pinning her down with all her strength.
Kat sliced the girl on fire's cheek with the knife she took out of her pocket, blood immediately dropping from the cut she formed. That's all that Kat could do as Katniss held her arm back from doing anymore damage to her face.
Kat could easily kill Katniss, but the question that was up in the air was, will she actually go through with it.
Kat was ripped off of Katniss' body and thrown in the opposite direction. Kat felt all the air get knocked out of her body as it came in contact with the hard metal. She glanced in Cato's direction to see him angry. His eyes were black as he saw what Peeta had just done to Kat. She slowly pushed herself up to see Katniss standing above her. Kat kicked Katniss in the stomach, causing her to fall to the ground next to her.
But Katniss got up first, and shoved Kat's small body off the cornucopia.
Cato watched in slow motion as the girl from home tumbled off the cornucopia. Kat's screams filled the air as the mutts teeth sank into her side. And then another in her thigh.
Anger was the only thing that Cato could feel in the moment. He was angry that the girl on fire took everything from him. So he planned to take everything from her as well. An eye for an eye. He lunged for Peeta and wrapped his arms around his neck, in attempt to snap it if Katniss gave him the opportunity.
"Kill me!" Kat shouted as Cato looked over in her direction. He tightly shut his eyes as the scene in front of him scared him so bad that he was ready to jump down there after her. He wanted to do everything in his power to save her right now, but he couldn't. This truly was his nightmare that played out as the harsh reality. He's thought about this moment, many times. After a while he couldn't hear Kat's screams anymore, but no one heard a cannon yet.
Katniss took out an arrow and quickly aimed it at the two boys.
"Go on," Cato choked out, face covered in blood from Peeta. "Take your shot." Katniss stared at the two of them. Cato tightened his grip around Peeta's neck. "Then we both go down and you win." Katniss did not know what to do in this situation. Since the dogs were bored with Kat, they stopped attacking her and started clawing the sides once again.
They knew someone else was going to eventually fall off.
"I have nothing to lose anymore." The blonde haired boy looked down at Kat's body. Sadness filled him as he realized she was most likely dead. "But I can still do this if you can't." He continued. "One last kill to bring pride to my district."
Katniss shot her arrow into Cato's hand. Cato's screams filled the air as he looked at his hand with the arrow through it. He immediately let go of Peeta and Peeta elbowed him in the gut. Cato groaned and held his stomach while Peeta shoved him off the cornucopia.
Right in the path of the mutts.
The tributes from district two were on the ground, getting completely mauled by the mutts designed by the capital. Cato looked over at Kat in the process of all his pain, that was just numb by now, to see that she was indeed still alive, but just barely. She was hanging on by a thread.
Tears were running down her face as she watched the boy she loved get eaten by dogs. But she couldn't do anything. This was her worst fear.
The entire time, Cato's blue eyes were focused on Kat. She looked up in the sky as it started to get light again. She started to feel light headed, and thought maybe this was her time. Her body was numb from the pain, as well as shock took over since she had lost so much blood. She looked over to see the dogs were gone, and Cato's body was ripped to shreds as was hers.
"Kat," he choked out. He reached out his hand, coming to find that he was in a bit better shape then she was. His fingers just barely brushed her chewed up arm. Kat couldn't move her lower body, and didn't have the strength to respond. "I -"
"Stop! Stop!" A voice shouted. The pair from two looked into the sky in confusion, as did the pair from twelve. Katniss and Peeta stopped their hands mid air, as they were about to eat the poisonous berries.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the victors from district twelve and...two."

I know it seems kind of stupid to keep the four of them alive... For now.
