Summer 2018

"Do you have your medication?" Laura, Jessica's mother asks her, going down her checklist. "Yes, and I have enough clothes, and socks, and underwear." Jess says, finishing her mother's thoughts. "Look I'm fine, I feel great. I've been to LA before, Patrick and Maggie take great care of me while I'm out there. It'll be fine." She says, grabbing her mother's shoulders and pulling her into a hug. "I know you'll be okay, but I worry." Her mother says, pulling away from the hug with a small smile.

"I know you do, but you weren't this bad when I left for the first time or the time after that. And I was in worse shape back then." Jess says, referring to her first trip to California when she'd just finished treatment. "I love you mom, but I'm going to miss my flight." The young girl says, kissing her mother on the cheek. "I love you too baby. I'll see you in a few weeks!" The older women says with a smile.

Jessica loved flying, but she loved her destination even more. She had been to California a total of three times. She'd been there earlier that year before Billie and Finneas left for tour overseas, in February.

That was a tough time for both girls, the time zones were even more fucked up then they had been when Billie was in the states. Not to mention the blue eyed girls mental state.

Billie struggled while she was in Europe. The press, photo shoots, and the screaming fans really got to her. Not that she didn't love the people who supported her with everything they had, because she did.

Billie was so grateful and had so much love for her supporters, that's why she kept going. Something that Jessica could understand, the brunette kept going for Billie, and nothing would change that.

When Jessica touched down at LAX she felt a wave a happiness fall over her body, this was something she experienced every time she landed. It was the best high she could ever have.

Once she made it to the luggage pickup she took out her phone to call Patrick to let him know she was safe and landed, and that she was ready to be picked up. The last time she was in LA Patrick kindly offered to pick Jessica up, and they decided that from then on they'd be airport buddies. It was one of her favorite things about coming to visit.

"Hey Patty!" She said, just barely jogging over to the older man, embracing him in a hug. "Jessie. Hi sweetie how was your flight?" He asked pulling away from the hug, readjusting his black glasses on his nose.

"It was great! I don't really have problems on flights, thank god." Jessica says dramatically, with a laugh Patrick joining in. "C'mon let's go home." He says, grabbing the brunettes suitcase, leading her out of the airport.

The ride to the Baird-O'Connell residence was uneventful, Jessica caught Patrick up on her life and he showed her some new music he'd been listening to.

"Honey I'm home!" She called out once she made it into the house, wheeling her suitcase through the threshold. A wave of silver came barreling down the hallway, attacking the brunette girl with a hug and a single kiss to the cheek.

"I missed you so much Jess!" Billie exclaimed, slightly out of breath. Jess smiles and pulls her best friend into another bone crushing hug.

"God, Bil you have no clue how much I missed this." She finally says, untangling herself from Billie's grasp. "I'm so glad I'm here." She continues, smiling ear to ear.
