I opened my eyes and found that I was looking at a ceiling that wasn't the same as the one in my bedroom. With a sigh, I pushed myself into a sitting position and looked around the room to see that this wasn't even my own room.

I flicked the silky covers off my body and slid from my bed, making sure to stuff my feet into my slippers that were tucked neatly beside my bed.

"My Lady, you're awake! I was just coming for you" a female voice said and I turned towards the voice with a smile and an appreciative nod. With that turn, I became fully aware once more of where I was and who I was.

"Good morning, Josey" I replied but my voice sounded different, even to my own ears. I sounded older, wiser and more powerful. How was that possible?

The woman in front of me beamed happily and I smiled in return, feeling that my smile was full of happiness and gratefulness at having her beside me throughout all of this. Josey was the same height as me with raven black hair and bright green eyes. She always wore a smile on her face, but the smile changed depending upon who she was talking with. However I knew that her smile was always honest and true whenever she was with me. I didn't think I would have adapted to everything here in the Underworld if I hadn't had Josey by my side. At my coronation a few months ago, she had become my only handmaiden.

"What's the plan for today, Josey?" I asked, feeling tired and she smiled slightly before guiding me over to my dressing table. I caught a quick glimpse of myself, seeing that I was still my usual twenty three year old self.

I had the best room in the Underworld. It was spacious and homely, and nothing like the caves that some demons lived in. Although the living area belonging to Union had always been homely and designed to mimic the homes of mortals, which I'd never understood since Dolton had hated mortals.

"You have a meeting with the vampire clan before lunch and then the necromancers have requested your assistance with an especially difficult soul that they resurrected and can no longer control." I sighed at this as Josey pinned my hair up in different ways after she'd taken it out of the braid she had done last night after my bath.

"I wish those necromancers would learn" I huffed and Josey grinned at me in the mirror as she continued pinning my hair this way and that. I left her to it because I couldn't do anything with my hair to save my life. Josey was also in charge of my make-up and my fashion sense because those skills were also non-existent.

"Have you heard anything, Lila?" Josey asked quietly as she moved on to my make-up for the day, keeping it light at my request. If I had to perform more of my witch duties, I never liked wearing bold make-up. Make-up was perfect for painting a mask depending on what I needed to do that day. Assisting the necromancers with their issue would require my witch powers and so I liked my usual, natural self to perform those.

"Not yet, Josey." I knew she was anxious and excited about things going the way they needed to. I also understood how she felt because it was how I felt as well but patience was something that we both needed otherwise things could end badly for all of us, me included.

"I'm sorry Lila. I know this is just as hard for you." I blinked my eyes open as Josey moved to my lips and so I avoided talking or smiling until she was done, instead I just allowed myself to watch her as she concentrated on making me into the Source of the Underworld.

"Don't worry about it Josey. It would be even harder if I didn't have you with me." She grinned and bowed gracefully which made laugh a little.

"Just wait a little longer, my friend. I promise you that it will work out but we need to stay patient until the time is right." Josey smiled sadly and nodded before she tilted her head, looking worried all of a sudden as I stood up ready to start the day.
