Two New Secrets

Mal and Harry were just staring at each other through their windows. Then Mal smiled and closed her curtains and got into bed.

(The next morning)

Mal walked downstairs to only find her dad sitting at the table.

"Hey where's Mom?" Mal asked.

"She left early for work." Her dad answered. "Mostly because of me."

"Uh... I should probably get going. I don't want to be late for school." Mal said, then grabbed a piece of toast and walked out with her bag and jacket.

"Hey." Harry said from behind her.

"Oh hey." Mal looked at him as he started walking beside her.

"So last night..." Harry was saying.

"What about it?" Mal looked at him confused.

"What was that? Seems like we had a moment." Harry mentioned.

"We didn't. We just looked at each other. We didn't have a moment or anything." Mal told him.

"Well what about Friday night? Was that nothing?" Harry wondered.

"Yes. It was mistake." Mal stated, then walked away from him.

Mal walked onto the bus and saw Evie sitting by herself.

"Hey can I sit?" Mal asked.

"If you want." Evie answered slightly looking at her.

"Look Evie, I know I should've told you about me and Ben. I was just scared to hurt you." Mal was telling her.

"I get it. Thanks Mal." Evie smiled at her.

(At school)

"Evie there you are. I gotta talk to you." Ben grabbed her hand and pulled her away.

"What's up?" Evie asked.

"We need to rehearse tonight." Ben told her.

"Oh Ben. I don't know..." Evie was going to say.

"Please, we need you." Ben begged.

"Okay." Evie gave in. "I'll be there."

"Great I'll see you later." Ben grinned, then ran off.

"What was that about?" Mal asked walking up to her.

"Nothing. He just wanted to talk about band stuff." Evie answered.

"Your still in the band with him?" Mal checked.

"Yeah... Is that a problem?" Evie responded with a question.

"What? No of course not. You can be in a band with him if you want. Go ahead." Mal replied.

"Good. I'll see you later." Evie smiled, then walked away.

(Later)

"Hey. We need to talk." Harry said and pulled Mal into an empty room.

"What are you doing?!" Mal pulled her hand out of his grip.

"I want to talk about us." Harry told her.

"There is no us, Harry. What happened between us was a one time thing." Mal said.

"Can we just meet tonight and if you really don't see us becoming anything, then I'll leave you alone." Harry said.

"Fine." Mal gave in and rolled her eyes.

(After school)

Ben was in his garage with Lonnie and they were practicing. Then Evie walked in.

"Hey. Sorry hopefully I'm not late." Evie told them as she shut the door behind her.

"You're good." Ben smiled at her.

(Later)

"Hey. You ready to go?" Harry questioned as he met Mal at her door.

"If we're really doing this." Mal replied.

"It'll be fun." Harry assured her.

"We'll see." Mal stated.

After they were done practicing Lonnie decided to go home. It was just Ben and Evie.

"So are you and Mal good?" Ben checked.

"Yeah." Evie nodded.

"Good. I mean that's good to hear." Ben corrected himself.

Evie smiled and laughed a little. "Ben can I ask you something?"

"Yeah of course." Ben answered.

"Do you love Mal?" Evie asked.

"Wow." Ben looked at her surprised. "Well I don't know. We haven't been dating that long but it's possible. Why do you ask?"

"Just curious. You wouldn't hurt her in anyway, right?" Evie checked.

"Evie, you're scaring me. Is Mal okay?" Ben wondered.

"What? Oh yeah no Mal's fine, but I should probably get going before someone sees me." Evie answered, then started leaving.

"What do you think?" Harry questioned as they walked into his room.

"Yeah it's great. So what does this have to do with us?" Mal asked.

"Well if we start dating you need to know what my room looks like." Harry answered.

"Harry we used to be like almost best friends. I know what your room looks like." Mal told him.

"Yeah, but not since I changed it." Harry added.

"Whatever." Mal playfully rolled her eyes and sat on his bed.

Harry sat beside her and smiled at her. Mal looked at him with an awkward smile.

Then she noticed a guitar. "Do you play?"

"A little, but not really. It's mainly for when I'm bored." Harry replied.

Mal and Harry continued sitting on the bed and would glance at each other now and then. Then Mal rolled her eyes and looked back and grabbed his face and kissed him. He kissed back, then Mal pulled away. She looked at him, then they started kissing again.

A few minutes later they stopped. They looked into each other's eyes. Then Mal looked away and ran out.

"Wait Mal!" Harry jumped up and ran after her.

Right as Mal was about to open the door she turned to Harry and grabbed his hand. "You know that abandoned building in the middle part of town?"

"Yeah. What about it?" Harry answered and questioned.

"Meet me there tomorrow night." Mal said, then ran out.

(At Evie's)

Evie was in her room laying in her bed thinking about her conversation with Ben. She really did miss him. She acted like it was okay with Ben and Mal when Mal apologized just because she didn't want to lose her best friend, but in reality she wanted to be the one Ben truly falls in love with.

Evie got up and looked out the window. When she turned back around Ben was standing there wearing his suit he wore to the dance while she was wearing her normal clothes. He held out his hand and spun her. They were slow dancing. Then they started leaning in to kiss like they did at the dance, but then he disappeared.

"What am I going to do? I'm in love with my best friend's boyfriend." Evie said to herself.
