"I FOUND YOU."
Cheyenne's POV:
We were about to dock the ship, and we were getting way too close to land. I changed into my armour. The avatar was hiding in the southern water tribe, where my father was from. I knew Zuko would probably attack the village, to which I was not looking forward. I was going to try my best to persuade him, but I couldn't do much. When we got closer the village started to tremble. Once we docked the ship the gate opened. Zuko and I walked to the tribe, which was small.A boy more or less our age tried to attack Zuko, but he was not very good a fighting. He got thrown in the snow by the Prince. He approached the other villagers. "Where are you hiding him?" No one answered. He grabbed an old lady by the hood of her water tribe clothing. "He'd be about this age, master of all elements." It was the same as before, no one answered.
"Zuko-" He quickly cut me off. "Shut up." He hissed. "Let the woman go." He did as I said. But after he threw a flame toward the villagers. "No!" I managed to scream. He didn't hurt anyone, to which I was grateful. "I know you're hiding him." He was pissed. The boy from before attacked again. Zuko threw him away, again, but this time the boy threw a boomerang at him. "Show no fear!" Said a little boy as he passed him a spear. 'I got to admit that the kid has guts.'
The boy charged again against Zuko, who broke the spear the other boy was holding. The banished Prince hit the water tribe boy, with the back of the spear, several times in the head. But then the boomerang came back and hit Zuko in the head. I snorted at this, which made Zuko glare at me. He turned his hands to fists and fire came out of them.
Then a boy appeared out of nowhere on top of a penguin. He knocked Zuko down. I helped him back up as I saw a monk. Well, he was a kid, but he looked like a... monk? He greeted the villagers and then he looked at us. Zuko got into a firebending stance, which made me and the guards back away and stand to the sides of the monk. He airbended the snow and threw it at all of us. 'He's the avatar.' I thought as I looked at him in awe. "Looking for me?"
"You're the Airbender?" Zuko was stupid. "Are you seriously asking that? He just airbended." Zuko glared at me, again. "You're the avatar? I've spent years preparing for this encounter, training, and meditating. You're just a child." Zuko was underestimating the avatar, he was no ordinary kid. "Well, you're just a teenager." I snorted at the Avatar's response. 'I like this kid.'
Then Zuko attacked him with fire blasts, which the Airbender tried to block. I looked at the villagers. They were terrified. "If I go with you, will you promise to leave everyone alone?" Without letting Zuko say anything I answered. "Yes, we'll leave the tribe alone," I said quickly. "Who said-" Zuko tried to question my words, but I didn't let him. "I said it." I was fuming. "They're innocent people who don't deserve to be hurt. He is coming voluntarily and we're leaving the tribe alone, end of the story. You two grab the avatar and tie him up." Zuko looked mad, but he didn't question my orders.
Some random girl begged the avatar, whose name was Aang, not to do it. I felt pity. It was a bit sad. "Don't worry, Katara. It'll be okay." The kid reassured. "Take care of Appa for me until I get back."
"Head course to the Fire Nation. I'm going home." Said Zuko. 'Yeah, we'll see about that.' I thought as I boarded the ship. The gate closed behind me. We took the Avatar to the deck of the ship. As soon as we got there Iroh came out of his chambers. "This staff will make an excellent gift for my father. I suppose you wouldn't know of fathers, being raised by monks." Said Zuko bitterly. "Take the avatar to the prison hold and take this to my quarters."
"I'll take the avatar myself," I said. Zuko nodded as I grabbed the monk by his arm. When we got downstairs and no one could hear us I stopped. He looked at me and I smiled. "Hi, I'm Cheyenne and I'm a double bender. I don't have much time to explain myself, so I'll just-" I said while I got out a knife. I cut his ropes and I freed him. "-free you and explain the rest when I can join you. I'm letting you know now Aang, you have friends at the Fire Nation." I said with a grin, he had a confused expression. "It's a long story. Now, throw a blast of air against the metal and run as if you just escaped."
He did as I said, and after that, I sat on the floor acting as if I was knocked out. No one came in so I got up and waited until there was some action. When I heard a noise at the deck I quickly went up the stairs. I suddenly saw a flying bison over my head. 'Wow.' I then saw that Zuko was fighting Aang, and he was winning. He threw Aang overboard, and I panicked. Suddenly a big tornado of water rose and Aang was on top of it.
He went on deck and he waterbended a lot of people out of the ship, except me, however, I had hit a wall. I was shocked. His eyes and arrows were glowing. I stared in awe and then suddenly he passed out. I got up and approached his body, now that no one was watching. The bison landed on deck as I carried Aang. "Cheyenne..." Said the monk in a weak voice. The two water tribe kids approached me on alert. "Can you stand up, Aang?" I asked worried, the kids nodded in response and I dropped him to the ground again. He rose to his feet, meanwhile, the two Villagers looked at me confused. "No time to explain, leave," I said quickly.
"My staff." Said Aang. "Got it." Said the water tribe boy. "Ha! That's from the water tribe!" I assumed he was speaking with a soldier who had fallen. Katara got Aang on the bison and I walked inside again. "Wait, where are you going?" Katara asked. "I can't blow my cover." I made my way inside and I acted as if I was injured. From inside I saw as the guards slowly recovered and were conscious again. Iroh walked past me with sleepy eyes, he then stopped and looked back at me. "He's escaped." He then turned around and saw the flying bison. "Huh?"
Iroh helped Zuko to get back on deck, and I went back to my chambers. I was still acting injured so I didn't have to clean up any mess or help anyone. I changed into comfortable clothes and I lay on my bed. 'Well, I helped the avatar and I didn't blow my cover. That's great...Finally, I have found the Avatar. Now I can do what I was meant to do my whole life.' I thought as I tried to relax. Someone knocked on my door, and I was too lazy to open it. "Come in!" I screamed loud enough so they could hear me. Suddenly Zuko came in. I quickly sat on the bed. "Hey. Are you injured?" He asked he looked genuinely worried. I chuckled. "Yeah, but I'll just need to rest. There are no big injuries, it's just that I've been knocked out twice so..." He nodded in understatement, which I was happy about because I wouldn't know what to say if he questioned anything that had happened.
"Do you mind if I stay here for a bit?" I shook my head in response. "You can stay." He sat down next to me in the bed. We stayed in silence for a bit until I decided to speak. "Is the ship damaged too bad?" He nodded. "We'll need to stop for repairs." And again silence. I was about to say something but Zuko interrupted me.
"Can I hug you?" The question shocked me more than it should have. I had hugged Zuko a couple of times, but he never hugged back so I just stopped doing it. "I mean... Yeah, I guess." He put his arms around me as I put my arms around his neck. He pressed me tightly against me as I felt my shirt get wet. He was crying. "I failed." He whispered against my neck. I put my hand on the back of his head to try and comfort him. "I failed." He repeated softer than before. We stayed like that for a lot of time, so much so that we fell asleep.
