"MOM, I'M SCARED."
Cheyenne's POV:
It had been a couple of days since the incident with the pirates happened. I was distracted since it was the anniversary of my father's death. I asked to be alone for the whole day. I was very sad. It had been eight years since he died, and a day hadn't passed without me thinking about him.*flashback*
I was with Dad, practising waterbending in a river. I had finally done my first water-whip. "Wow, you're a prodigy." He said in admiration. I smiled. "I'm learning from the best." I had a happy smile.
We kept practising for a bit until it was too late. When we got home I ran up to my mother. "Mom, I can do water-whips! Dad said I'm learning fast!" My mom sweetly smiled at me. "You must be hungry after all that training, so I prepared roast duck, your favourite." My eyes shined in happiness.
Dinner was as always, we all laughed and talked about fun things. We had no problems, or at least I didn't know about them. We were being chased by the fire nation. My parents had committed a crime by falling in love. And that's why he was killed.
Three years had passed since then, and by the age of eight, I had already mastered waterbending. I still was with firebending basics. It was a normal day, well, it would have been if that hadn't happened.
We were at home, as usual. Mom was preparing dinner as Dad taught me how to read and write. We heard knocking at the door, which was unusual. My mom stopped cooking and looked at my dad with worried eyes.
My father stood up and opened the door, as my mother grabbed me by the wrist and hid with me in the closet. It was all dark, we couldn't see anything but we heard everything. "Hello, what can I help--" He was cut off by another voice. "Is Lara here?" Asked a deep voice.
"Who's Lara?" My father asked. I swallowed hard as I heard nothing. "Wrong answer." Then all I could hear were kicks and groans. They were fighting. I heard a scream before it was all silent. "Why did you kill him? We could have tortured him and maybe he would have spilled out something. Great, now we'll get a lecture."
I started to cry silently as my mom covered my mouth. I was shocked. All my happiness had been taken away in a second. "Ugh. Why would she even be with a guy like this? Have you forgotten that her family is so rich? Why would she be with a peasant?" I cried harder while I held my mother's hand.
I felt my hair get wet, it was my mom. She was crying too. And then it hit me, I had lost a father, but she lost the love of her life. She betrayed her whole nation just for him. She ran away from an arranged marriage just for him.
We heard some footsteps and then silence. They had left. "Mom, I'm scared," I said in a low whisper. She softly hugged me. "I know love, I know." We stayed there hugging and crying for almost an hour.
When we came out of the wardrobe I saw him. More specifically his body. He was all burned, I couldn't even recognize his face, because he had none. I cried harder than before as I hugged his body. "Why?! He was so good Mom! He didn't deserve it!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. She wrapped an arm around me and she pulled me towards her. She hugged me with a strong grip.
"Don't worry, sweetheart. He's in a better place." She said in a low whisper. The last thing I remembered before falling asleep in my mother's arms, were her tears.
*end of flashback*
I cried as I hugged my pillow. 'Mom, Dad, I miss you.' I cried harder than before. They were both gone, and now I was on my own.
A/N: Hey. I hope you're enjoying this story. So, I wanted a chapter that talked a bit about Cheyenne's past, but it'll all be revealed as we go on with the story. About how she is a double-bender and her connection with Aang, it'll be explained at the end of book 1.
Enjoy the story! -A
