36. GUILT
Sienna's POV
Things have been hectic for me. First of all, I couldn't admit, I was the one who pushed Elijah down those stairs.
The prince would surely get me killed. I could get arrested for attempted murder because no one would believe me it was a mistake.
What am I going to do now?I worked so hard to get here and I can't just throw it all away now. But do I have a choice.
If this all gets out, I will be in serious trouble. The worst part is Elijah remembers very well that I pushed him.
Right now, he has the upper hand and I'm trapped. He is starting to get on my nerves.
He keeps sending me on silly errands every minute. Just this morning, he said he wanted strawberries.
I went to kitchen to get them for him but then he said he wanted a specific brand and only trusted me to get them for him.
After going shopping for the stupid strawberries, I gave them to him only for him to throw them away because he said he couldn't trust me because I might try to poison him.I was starting to wish the fall put him in coma. I don't wish death for anyone. Honestly, pushing Elijah down the stairs was an honest mistake I'm now paying dearly for.
Maybe I just need a break. I need to breathe and think of a logical way out of this without getting exposed.
I decided to take a walk in the palace garden. Fresh air always did wonders for me.
"Eli, talk to me." I heard Ethanael speak.
"I'm okay, Tae. Don't worry," Elijah responded.
I spotted the pair a short distance away. I wonder what they are talking about?
I decided to stay out of sight and listen in on their conversation."Eli, I know we haven't known each other for long but I consider you one of my closest friends. Tell me what's bothering you. Maybe I can help," Ethanael said.
"You can't help me" Elijah said.
"Eli, did something happen?"
"Please promise me, you won't tell a soul."
"I promise, Eli. What's up?"
"Something terrible happened because of my accident," Eli said his voice sounding sad and broken.
"What is it, Eli? Other than your broken arm, you look perfectly fine."
"I...I...I'm...the doctor...he said that...I...I can't have..." and then Elijah burst into tears. What could have happened? I have never seen or heard Eli so broken.
"What, Eli?"
"I can't... have kids anymore...Tae...I'm barren," Elijah said and I was frozen in a state of shock. Was this my fault? Elijah can't have kids anymore because of me. I was filled with a huge wave of guilt. I didn't mean for something so serious to happen.
"What use am I to Marcus, if I can't give him a heir. I'm basically useless." Elijah went on.
"Don't say that, Eli, you can adopt," Ethanael tried to comfort him.
"Royalty is passed by blood not adoption, Tae. I'm useless now. Might as well allow Marcus to marry Sienna, instead of me." Elijah was now sobbing even louder after he spoke.
I couldn't take it anymore and left in a rush back into the house.I crashed into a wall. Well, it wasn't a wall but actually Prince Marcus.
"Sorry. What's the rush?" He asked me.
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I was on my way out," I said keeping my eyes down.
"That's good. I was actually on my way out. I need to get some fresh air and think about some things. I would like it if you joined me," he said with a smile that made my insides melt.
"Umm... sure," I said and was obviously blushing. He held my hand and led me outside where a car was already waiting.
He opened the passenger door for me and let me in before rushing to the driver seat. Soon we were off.He took me to what seemed like a private beach. There was no one in sight as he stopped the car. We didn't speak for a few minutes and it was starting to get uncomfortable.
"Your Majesty, why did you bring me here?" I asked.
"Please call me, Marcus. I think we are past all these formalities," he said as he held my hand.
What was happening? Was the prince showing me affection?
"My Prince, I mean Marcus, this is not appropriate. What about Elijah? I thought he was your choice," I said and he seemed to frown at the mention of Elijah."Elijah is fun and all, but I'm looking for a life partner not a fun partner," he said and I literally felt butterflies in my tummy. I knew all my efforts were not wasted but a part of me felt guilty about Elijah's situation.
As the prince looked into my eyes, I felt like everything was getting back into place because I was with the man of my dreams and he seemed to feel the same way.°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
