Nana's POVIn a dark corner, where one couldn't be seen, a cap pulled over his face, sat a man. It must be him. The one on the phone call. He notices my presence, his high neck pulled up over his jaw covering the bottom of his face. He nods at me. So much for a camouflage. Huh.
"I'm not going to ask who you are. Just tell me what you want." I say without taking a seat, rolling my eyes.
"I think our conversation on the phone wasn't enough to scare you." He speaks without looking up, his tone low almost like a whisper.
"Hah, do you know how many prank calls I get like that? Yet, I ignore them."
"But you didnt ignore mine, you're here. Standing infront of me." He looks up, his brown eyes piercing through.
It's the way he spoke that got my attention on the call. And now it was the way he looked. His eyes wouldn't lie. What normally would look like soft brown eyes, looked like fire when he spoke to me.
I quietly sit down across the table crossing my legs and my arms. Defense. "You have 10 minutes. I have a flight to catch tomorrow. "
"Won't take longer than a minute." The confidence in his voice makes me feel shaky from inside. He removes a brown colored paper folder and empties the contents on the table in front of me. He lays out three photos. One in which Cam is seen dragging a black plastic bag near our dorm building. The second one, of me paying Lara money to scare Mel. Third, of Cam replacing Lara's drink on the day of the movie premiere. My legs go weak and I couldn't stand eventhough I wanted to. I wanted to run. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Who is this guy? Is he a detective in disguise?
"Wh-where...how?" I gulp.
"Seems like I got all your attention now." He scoffs, enjoying seeing me shaken. "How would you feel if this landed in the police station?"
I know what he is doing. I mustn't fall for it. "Go ahead then. What would it prove? Cam taking out the trash? Me giving my friend some money? Cam getting a drink for himself? I don't see what's wrong with it?"
He chuckles. "You recovered quite quickly. A second ago you were shaking. You think that's all I've got? Some photos? You wouldn't think I'd come here all the way to show you some photos? They're just an idea to what I have and I'm capable of."
"What do you want?" I grit through my teeth.
"Turn yourself in, so that Cam gets to go to jail."
"Why would I do that?"
"So that you wouldn't get dirt on your name. You're thinking covering Cams deeds will shut him up? Will it stop him?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." I say blatantly
"Fine. Let's see how Amelia will react to these photos. I'm sure she has been curious until now." He collects the photos and gets up.
"Wait. Wait you moron. I'll talk."
"Alrighty. Now we are talking."
"So throwing Cam in jail will do the job? What do you get out of this?"
He laughs again. "What will I get out of it? You'll see. Just do a good job. Turn yourself in, you have until tomorrow before your flight at 5pm." He gets up and steadily walks out of the coffee shop.
He knows the flight time too. He definitely knows all of us. I've many questions but thinking about them wont do me good. I must get to action.
...
"Where are you? I'm waiting by the food truck near the park." I hang up.
About 5 minutes later, Lara joins me. We walk away into the park. "You've grown skinnier, babe." I say.
"Get to the point."
"Hey, what are you mad at me for?"
"You knew I'm allergic to caffeine. And you guys swapped my drink. I almost died. And what? You want a favor from me?"
"You're the one who punched Cameron's sister, triggering him to actually do something to you. I just give ideas you know. Hell, I didn't even know he had a sister until then."
"And you're the one who asked me to scare your friend Amelia. What kind of friend does that? And you wanted me to shut up about it?"
"I never asked you to record and present it as your movie, you're the one who broke our deal first. You got what you deserved. It ends there. I'm not here to reflect back on everything that happened. I'm here to get your revenge for you."
"How?"she scoffs.
"I'm planning to reveal about Cam to the police. Not with your story, I know word around is that you got poisoned but the police ended it as a mere accident. I've something else and I want you-"
"To keep my mouth shut. Alright, I know. I have."
I smile. "Such a good girl. Stay healthy."
...
"We are here, lady." The taxi driver says as he switches off the meter.
"Stay here, I'll be back."
He pauses for 3 seconds, "alright. I'll be down there by the ATM machine."
Cameron dear, just be yourself and everything will work out.
...
Before entering his ward room, I hit the record button on my phone and slip it inside my coat pocket.
"Cam, I'm here."
I walk in to find a very distressed Cam lying on his bed, weeping. Perfect. "Nana....what have I done?"
"What have you done?"
"The meds don't work anymore Nana...I can't stop myself. I'm afraid of myself more than anyone else."
Aren't we all? I sigh. "Are you talking about your other personality?"
He nods, tears falling down his face. "I have stolen things from stores, picked pockets, I have stalked people for fun, sent them funny texts, but kill someone? I have never done it before.....I don't even remember doing it.....I just remember dragging the garbage bag...if it weren't for the video you took of me, I would've never even known..."
"Well, you shouldn't have tried to prank Mel, look what happened to you." I change the topic provoking him.
He slowly gets up, his eyes filled with anger. "I hate her. What do you even like about her? I warned you about her, but you ignored me. And look what you made me do. You know what I think?" His eyes change into an evil gleam as he laughs.
"What?"
"I think....that the sociopath influenced me..you know who I'll murder next...make a guess Annabellee."
"Not another word from your mouth, Cameron Gray. I come here for your support and this is how you treat me? All that I have been doing for you, all the trouble I went through to protect you and you're blaming it all on me? Do you even know how hard it is to protect you and Amelia? You don't. So don't even start. And get yourself together. You're a mess."
