chapter two: October

***

The next day started exactly like the last one.

The same minute as yesterday Meg was sitting on my bed and waking me up. We went into the kitchen and I made breakfast.

Meg was all excited about going to school today because they were going to watch a movie. Her joy was contagious and after only three minutes of her jumping around, I couldn't get the smile off my face anymore. She really is a bundle of happiness.

We get to school early and there are nearly no students in the halls. Meg waves goodbye to me in the parking lot again and walks towards her friends.

This time I see Carly with her fiery hair in a thick braid down her back, from afar. She is standing beside my locker and talking to someone. I assume that it is Charles and I'm right.

He is standing there in a super cool way leaning against the lockers, nodding the whole time while Carly is talking about Cheerleading. His leather jacket and her light brown knit dress make them look like a couple out of a movie. I slowly approach them and hear Carly saying "You have to see it! It looks incredible."

"She's right", I agree with her guessing that she is talking about the pyramid they learned yesterday and smile. She turns to me and it seems like her smile grows bigger as soon as she sees that it's me.

"Auden. It's great that you're here. I was telling Charles about the new pyramid we learned yesterday," she confirms my thought.

"The one with the crazy throwing thing?"

"Yeah," she agrees with a nod.

"That one he really should see." Again she nods.

I open my locker while she continues to talk to her boyfriend. The books I took home with me yesterday I put into the locker again and take out the ones I'll need today. Then I close the door and turn to Carly, she's looking at me. Charles is gone, I don't care and Carly seems to care neither.

We make our way to history just like yesterday and talk about another new trick she wants to try with the Scorpions. I listen closely and tell her my honest thoughts.

Again we are the first ones to enter the classroom. Mrs King looks up from her Laptop greeting us with a nice smile and asks us how far we've come with the homework so far. Carly says that she already started yesterday and I say the same even though I only read a little bit about the topic. Mrs King is happy with our answers and continues to do what she was doing before we entered.

History seems to take longer today and coming near the end I start to colour in the boxes on my paper. The other lessons don't take that long, in just a seemingly short time it is lunch break and I'm walking towards the lacrosse field with Carly.

"It's pretty cold today," she says, hugging her jacket closer to herself.

"You're right," I agree, "But it is October already, so it's not that big of a surprise, is it?"

She laughs a little "Yeah. It is." We reach the spectator ranks. Someone is already sitting there and I don't recognise her at first, but when she looks up I have to grin.

"Well, who do we have here?" Hotaru asks and jumps to her feet. "If this isn't my two sweethearts."

"If this isn't our friendly neighbourhood Anime girl," counters Carly with a big grin on her face.

"Ha-ha," Hotaru rolls her eyes, still grinning, "you really are the funniest person I have ever met, Carlos."

Carly laughs and hugs the girl. She has to bend over a bit because Hotaru isn't the tallest person, but she makes up for it with her never-ending sass.
