chapter fourteen:  rage

***

The next day was suppose to go on like any other had as well. At first it does.

Meg wakes me up to make breakfast, tells me about the things she'd done yesterday after we got home and asks what Daphne had told me. I says that it's a secret that I'm not allowed to tell and she's okay with it. She even gets me to swear that I will not tell anyone for Daphne and I do so.

Then we go to school and the lessons creep by like they do most of the time. Carly is a good friend again and I can't take my eyes of her for a long time. She lets me copy some of our math homework because I couldn't wrap my head around it the last evening and I'm glad that she's in the same class as me once again. But when we want to leave the school when classes are over to get to the Cheerleading practice something unexpected happens.

The voice of the schools principal hovers through the whole school. "Daphne King, come immediately to my office, please."

Carly and I stopped at the moment principal Clearwater had started to speak. What had happened. There is no reason I can think of for him to call her to his office.

I look at Carly and she answers my asking gaze. We both don't know what's going on but we have the same idea and don't even have to share what we think of. Immediately we turn around and walk back into the school towards the principals office and from far we can see the other Scorpions already standing in front of the door to it. Amera is there to and I guess that no one except Daphne was allowed to go inside.

"What happened?," Carly asks the second we reach the others.

"We don't know," Amera answers and her dark brown eyes are worried, "He didn't let me go inside with her. It has to be something important." Some of Daphnes other friends are there now too and we all wait for Daphne to come out again.

We wait for a minute. The another one and another one until the secretary tells too go away. Daphnes closer friends manage to persuade her so they can stay but all of the Scorpions, except Amera, have to leave. In a whole we walk towards the exit and everyone is talking about what could have happened. Even though Daphne is not the nicest person there is no reason why the principal might want to talk to her. If it is a bad one, what everyone expects. Principal Clearwater never calls anyone to his office if he has good news for them. There's always something bad connected to him asking someone to come.

Uneasy the Scorpions and I reach the lacrosse pitch. I sit down on the spectator ranks and watch Carly tell the girls what's up for today. They are going to try to perform the whole thing in their performing gear. To my surprise Nica and Olivia are there and I realize that Daphne never actually threw them out of the team. Nica being the best of the flights and Olivia being one of the most important standby is probably the reason for them still being allowed to the practice but I'm sure that after the competition both of them will have to leave the Scorpions.

Carly is really good in correcting the girls whenever they do something wrong. She never yells at them, like Daphne had but I guess that this will come with time.

It isn't the first time that Carly is leading them in practice. A few months ago Daphne had been really sick and Carly had to train the Scorpions through that time because she had been announced co-captain just a few weeks earlier. After some time we hear someone sobbing and everyone's eyes immediately fly to its source.

Daphne's walking down the path towards us and she's bawling her eyes out. I jump down from the ranks and run towards her. I am the first one to reach her and embrace her in my arms. Amera follows me and I pass Daphne on to her. My white shirt has a black spot on the shoulder in which Daphne had cried. Her eyeliner and mascara is running down her cheeks in streaks. I nearly have to cry as well when I see her like that.

Amera keeps mumbling comforting things in her ear but Daphne doesn't stop sobbing. We get her to the spectator ranks and Amera sits down with her. Carly takes a seat on Daphnes other side and begins to rub her back. I kneel down in front of her and take one of her hands. It breaks my heart to see the strong confident Daphne cry like this and I can already imagine what the principal had told her but I don't dare to ask her if the competition had been cancelled.

"Shhh," Amera makes and presses her lips in Daphnes hair. Her dark skin is shiny from Daphnes tears and she looks like she's never going to let her best friend out of her arms.

With some time Daphnes sobbing goes down and she only has some attacks with some distance between them. Daphne starts to say something but it goes under in another sob attack and we don't understand anything.

"It's okay," whispers Amera and Daphne nods a little, "Take your time, Dove, and tell us when you're ready."

She needs another fifteen minutes before Daphne manages to talk without being interrupted by a sob attack. "He kicked me out," she says and I can feel the rage going trough everyone. He kicked her out. Out of the cheerleading team, I suppose. No one except him can kick out the captain and he has to have a real good explanation for what he did.

"He did what?," Melanie cries out.

"He kicked her out," Nica says and in her voice there's no surprise nor rage and I know what the reason must be.

"Why would he do that?," someone asks Daphne and she points out Nica and Olivia who are standing side by side.

"You didn't!" A girl cries out every single one of them start to yell at Nica and Olivia until Carlys voices rises above every other.

"You two are no longer part of the team!" Immediately every girl goes quiet and I wait for someone to applaud but no one does.

"You can't do this," Nica refuses and crosses her arms. Olivia does the same but stays quiet.

"She can," Amera jumps to Carlys Defense, "She's captain now that Daphne is out which means she can kick you out any time she wants." Daphne nods quietly.

"I know," Nica growls, "but you can't go to the competition if you're missing two flights and a standby." Some of the girls want to protest but Nica interrupts them. "Well you could, because we have enough people to do it. But it would be dump because you would never have the possibility to win if it wasn't for a wonder." With those words she turns around picks up her bag from the floor and walks away. Olivia follows her a few seconds later.

The cheerleading practice gets cancelled by Carly because she thinks that it's not nice of they would continue to practice without Daphne and instead grabs a few of the girls and goes to the principals offices. I go with them because Daphne said that she's going to go home and I don't actually have to do anything else.

The girls want to just burst into the principals office but his secretary refuses to let them in all at once and forces them to go in one after another. They all sit down and when she asks me if I'm one of them an I deny because I'm no Cheerleader she kicks me out an tells me to go home. But before I have to leave Carly promises me to call me later.

At first I just stand in front of the door to the office and think about just staying here but then I decide to actually go home. Carly promised to call me and she will. With that in my mind I start to walk home but I don't even manage because I can here someone talk. It's Charles and now I actually want to know what he's up to

Well, well, well. This one got a bit shorter because I actually have a lot of stuff going to happen in the next chapters and I really wanted to cliffhanger you once more so there isn't the whole stuff going on. Please don't be mad.

Okay so please tell me that I'm not the only one who really, really hates principal clearwater. He's the worst, right? And I can tell you. It's going to get even worse.

See you tomorrow on the other sde of the rainbow
