1 MONTH TO THE PRESENT DAY...
[ CHARLOTTE'S POV ]
I'm pissed off, more than I can ever explain to Jasper, more than I can even admit to myself. I've never been more annoyed at Henry, not even when he and the other boys exploded my kitchen. No this is different, this feels personal. He's never kept secrets like this from me, Jasper maybe, but not me. I was the one he confined into about being Kid Danger, and this should be just the same.
However, how it appears is that we aren't even on the same side anymore, that he's against us. Out of interest, I phoned up Mr Desilva about the orbs, and according to him a large shipment of them were stolen eight months prior. Of course I didn't throw Henry under the bus, I couldn't bring myself to do it, but it did raise questions about everything. The door swings open and in scrolls the blonde, he's clearly hungover but still carrying a small bag of pastries. He raises an eyebrow throwing us a quizzical look, as he's met by both Jasper and I standing opposite.
'Hi?' He nervously asks as he takes off his jacket. Let's get straight to it.
'We saw the messages, Hen,' Jasper mumbles, uncertain by our confrontation.
'Yeah, I know...' Henry pours himself a glass of water,' They're weren't yours to look at - they were private.'
I feel a sharp intake of breath from beside me, but I can't let personal feelings get in the way of it, we need to find the truth.
'You didn't think Jasper and I would ask questions? How could we not! You still play for the other side, after all we've been through as a group!' I even flinch at my own words, and I can't help but feel bad for ganging up on him. He frowns instantly and his eyebrows furrow.
'I don't get it - your my friends - I thought you would understand! He said you would understand!'
'Well clearly Ray was wrong, we do care,' Jasper states even though he's still avoiding eye contact by staring at the ground,' You should have told us earlier, everything feels too late now.'
'I tried to tell you so many times - after the Cheerleaders, after Bianca, after Blake!' He's pleading now, not with the same level of dignity he had before. And what does Blake even have to do with this? My hand slowly pills out the circular case from the jacket pocket, and I throw it to him - his expression changes from anger to defeat.
'H...H...How?'
'Then there's this,' I continue as I glare over to the orbs rattling in his hands. 'Made by T.R.U.T.H., isn't it? See, a large shipment of these were stolen, so where did you get these from?' My voice is louder then it meant to be but it comes across just as well. The blonde's now pacing around the kitchen area, stammering underneath his breath, his hand weaving through his curly, shaven, hair.
'Charlotte, Jasper, you gotta believe me! I didn't realise they were stolen! I didn't steal them! I can prove it!' He throws the pastries at Jasper, flakes flying everywhere, as he snatches the watch from the table. Tying it to his wrist, it occurs to me that the job at the bakery could not even be real, it could just be a cover. Then how did he even get his money?
'Where do you work?'
'Like I said at the Bakery downtown.'
'Okay go and take us there then, show us.' Jasper's glaring at me now, probaly thinking that I'm pushing him too far, but he doesn't understand how much this means to me. How important Henry and this entire situation is to me. He's our best friend and I need answers. We can't go on like this.
'So maybe, I don't then. Why does it even matter?' I think then it clicks in his own head as he paces towards the door. He finally understands what I'm getting at, as he slams the door behind him leaving us alone.
'I'm going after him,' Jasper flatly says as he pulls on a jumper heading to the door, 'You're too harsh on him, Char. You may right but I can't leave it like that.' The door slams once again.
