John's POV-

Okay. Okay, I thought. Just... Stay behind here and he won't see you.

I slid down behind a tree tree, now sitting down, and sighed.

I've been following Alex in a safe distance that he wouldn't see me.

I poked my head out to see Alex walking down the path and seeing the bench. He smiled.

He took a seat beside the drawing book. He flipped through the pages, smiling ever so slightly.

He flipped to the last page and his eyes widened.

Expected... He doesn't like me, doesn't he?

He chuckled slightly, maybe because of my turtle.

Finally, he opened the box and gasped. "He remembered..." He said, and because of my distance, it was almost impossible to hear.

But I still heard.

He took the lion and squished and hugged the lion. It looked like he was squishing the death to him, but for me, it looked like he was squishing happiness to it.

I took a deep breath and quietly tip-toed towards him. I carefully took a seat next to him and waited, staring at the sunset.

"J-John?" He asked.

I turned and smiled, tears pooling at my eyes. I did it. I did it. But, nothing will happen.

"Happy birthday, Alex." I chuckled, sadly. I ruffled his hair and hugged him.

"How's 20?"I laughed. He smiled.

"It's... How do you put this," He paused. "Good, I guess." He shrugged.

"So..." I fiddled with my thumbs and looked down at my shoes.

"So..."

"I'm 'Anonymous'!" I exclaimed. I sadly laughed. "Surprise...?" I grinned, awkwardly.

Damn it, why did I have to be that awkward.

"Yeah, quite surprising." I see in the corner of my eyes Alex face turning red. But it must be due to the sunset...

"Oh, John?" He asked. I hummed a response. "Well...your secret admirer had, well, uh, has a letter for you." He took out a letter from his pocket.

"Wait, how did you-" I shook my head. "Nevermind. So you know him?" I asked.

"Well, yeah." He nervously scratched his head. "You could say that..."

I opened the letter and see a piece of parchment,

Dear Laurens,

Cold in my professions, warm in my friendships, I wish, my Dear Laurens, it might be in my power, by action rather than words, to convince you that I love you. I shall only tell you that 'till you bade us Adieu, I hardly knew the value you had taught my heart to set upon you.

Indeed, my friend, it was not well done. You know the opinion I entertain of mankind, and how much it is my desire to preserve myself free from particular attachments, and to keep my happiness independent on the caprice of others.

You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent. But as you have done it and as we are generally indulgent to those we love, I shall not scruple to pardon the fraud you have committed, on condition that for my sake, if not for your own, you will always continue to merit the partiality, which you have so artfully instilled into me.

It ended right there, without a complimentary close nor a signature.

"That's weird, there's usually a signature..." I mumbled.

I didn't notice Alex rise up and peek behind my shoulder. "None?" He asked.

"None." I repeated.

"Look again." He said and took our a pen.

Like seriously, does he carry pens wherever he goes?

I looked once more to the paper and see Alex signing:

Yours Truly,

A. Ham

I sat there, just sat there, mouth agape and eyes wide in surprise.

He was the one as well?!

This sounds like one of those fanfics I read.

How cliche is this?

I smiled and stood up grabbing Alexander's hand and leading him back to campus.

"Where are we going?" He blushed.

"We have two more surprises for you!" I grinned. There tingles in my hand from Alexander's. I felt like fireworks were going to explode at my heart.

"We?" He asked.

"Yes. From the squad and from...me." I smiled and continued our journey.

"But you already made a surprise from me-"

"Shh..." I placed my index at his lips causing him to blush. "It's worth it."

"I'm not worth it..." He mumbled.

"Yes you are!"

"How?" He asked and looked up at me.

I smiled. "Like this."

I don't know where I found the sudden courage or confidence.

I kissed Alexander.
Not those regular platonic kisses shared by best friends.

The one shared by lovers.

In a moment of realisation, Alexander kissed me back.

It was just the two of us.
Nothing else mattered.

And that's where the fireworks exploded.

How poetic and cliche.
