I could feel his thumb tracing circles on my arm, my body pressed against his, leaving no room for protest. His scent flooded my nose and it only made me want to cuddle closer. I didn't want to forget the feel of his arms around me. His heartbeat was loud and steady, a clear melody that lulled me to sleep. I felt safe and for the first time in years, my sleep wasn't interrupted by monsters that clawed at my flesh and reminded me of the lives I took.
When I awoke, it was morning. Sunshine kissed my skin from the windows that surrounded the room. The warm blanket that was draped over my body pooled around my legs as I shifted until I was sitting upright and leaning back against the pillows. I looked around and noticed that I was no longer in the white room with strange wires and machines but instead a bedroom with grey walls.
I lightly stretched my muscles and tried to get my blood flowing. My back was aching from the soft embrace of the mattress. I was unaccustomed to sleeping on a bed having slept on the cold, cement floor for so long.
My eyes scanned the room but came up empty. There was no sign of Levi, only the lingering scent of sunshine and coffee. I couldn't help but feel disappointed before I remembered my place as a rogue, undeserving of love and comfort.
I examined the room. White bookshelves lined the wall next to the bed, stacked with more books than I could ever hope to read. There was what seemed to be a walk-in closet that was filled with clothes and a door that I presumed to lead to the bathroom. A balcony overlooked the territory, giving a clear view of the woods. I trailed my eyes along the walls, noting how bare the room seemed before I stumbled upon a desk in the corner of the room that was stacked with paperwork, a reminder that this room wasn't meant for me.
I had no idea what to do. Levi hadn't told me anything other than who he was. All I knew was that I was on Hyperion territory. So there I sat, absentmindedly twisting my fingers and gazing outside the window that framed a large garden centered around a fountain.
My eyes brightened as I took in the sight in front of me. Color bloomed from every inch of the garden with flowers filling the sea of green and butterflies fluttering about. Birds were chirping from where they were perched on the branches of the trees littered throughout the garden, basking in the warmth of the sun. I could almost hear the laughter of children as they played. A memory of my mom chasing me around as my naive giggles filled the air flashed in my mind. My father was watching in the background, amused at the sight he was faced with. I was barefooted and free. I was happy.
I felt a smile tugging at my lips until my thoughts were interrupted by the door bursting open and I stiffened. I slowly glanced towards the doorway and was met with eyes that I did not recognize, eyes that were not Levi's.
