It had been three days since I sprained my ankle and Levi was as protective as ever.
No one had ever cared before when I would get injured and it was nice knowing there was someone who was concerned about my well-being even if it was for something as little as a sprained ankle.
I usually woke up to Levi brushing away my tears and cradling me in his arms after a nightmare. He never asked what they were about and simply held me in his arms to let me know he was there if I never needed him. Waking up in Levi's arms reminded me that I was no longer with my father and it was comforting knowing that I could open my eyes and be met with warmth rather than a man buried inside me as I silently pleaded for him to stop.
Being with Levi felt like home. It made me happy knowing that the Moon Goddess had granted me this one good thing in my life. That she had seen me to be worthy of someone like Levi after all that I had done.
He would eat breakfast with me in the morning and leave to train with the other pack members before coming back and spending the rest of the day with me. I felt bad for once again taking time out of his day when he was swamped with paperwork and pack business but he always assured me he would do it later before distracting me with gentle kisses.
We had yet to kiss each other on the lips and deep down a small part of me worried that he hadn't kissed me yet because he didn't want me but every time I glanced into his eyes and saw warmth and adoration shining back at me, my insecurities went away.
We mostly spent most of our days in bed although there were times we had to stay in his office due to urgent pack business. He would teach me how to read and write and according to him, I was making a lot of progress. Today was a lazy day and we had just finished reading a children's book. Levi and I were currently in bed playing a game of twenty questions.
"Favorite color?" I chirped.
"Black. What about you?"
I rolled over on my side so I was facing him. "Caramel brown."
"Why?" His eyes twinkled and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
A blush crept over my cheeks and I bit my lips before murmuring, "It's the color of your eyes."
A crooked grin made its way across Levi's face and my heart trembled at the sight of it. He looked so happy, so utterly and irrevocably beautiful, I felt a smile growing on my face too.
"I like your smile," I blurted. My breathing hitched and crimson painted itself all over my cheeks. I quickly sat up and turned my body away from him but he grabbed onto my arm and tilted my head towards his.
His smile had dropped and his expression turned serious. He searched my eyes and I fought against his grip on my chin because I couldn't handle the way he was looking at me. His eyes were dark, no longer the caramel brown that I loved but a shade of chocolate, so intense I drowned. I was about to apologize for making things awkward when he said, "I like you."
My heart stopped and my breath caught in my throat. Levi scanned my face for a reaction and moved his hand from my chin to cup my cheek, snapping me out of my daze as I leaned into his touch.
"Sometimes I wonder if this is all a dream and if I blink hard enough I'll open my eyes and be back in my cell," I whispered and his eyes widened.
I slowly crawled into his lap, his eyes were focused on my small form and I leaned up to press my forehead against his. "Sometimes I wonder if this is all a dream and I'll wake up to a world without having ever known you." I took a shaky breath before continuing, "I'm so afraid this is all just a dream, but if it is I'm grateful to the Moon Goddess for gracing me with you even if it's only for a few moments."
"And if this is all just a dream, please don't let me wake up," I softly murmured. Levi stared at me with sad eyes and I felt an unknown emotion tug in my chest.
"I can promise you it's not a dream, Rain," he gently smiled. "Or else I wouldn't be able to do this."
I closed my eyes as he began trailing kisses all over my face before stopping centimeters away from my lips. I could feel his warm breath fanning my face and my eyelids fluttered open, meeting Levi's. His gaze flickered from my eyes down to my lips and they darkened ever so slightly. Just as I thought he was about to lean in, he tilted his head up to place a soft kiss on my nose.
Disappointment filled my chest but I pushed it down, letting out light giggles as Levi pulled me flush against his chest.
I listened to his heartbeat and let out quiet hums of contentment while he played with my hair.
"Little moon?"
"Yeah?"
He didn't say anything and I pulled away, noticing a hesitant expression on his face. He looked worried.
My eyebrows furrowed. "What's wrong?"
He pulled an arm from around me to rub the back of his neck and a shy smile grew on his face. "When your ankle is healed..." I nodded encouragingly and he took it as a sign to continue. "... Would you like to go on a date with me?"
"A-a date?" My heart fluttered as he nodded, hope shining clear in his eyes and replied, "Yes, a date."
An idea popped into my head. I grabbed his face in between my tiny hands and took a breath. "No."
Levi's face fell and he looked broken. He tried to pull away from my hands but I held on tight.
"No?" he quietly whispered, as though he was afraid of me confirming what he had just heard.
Guilt plagued me as my chest tightened. I didn't mean to make him so upset. I just wanted to play around but seeing how sad he looked made me regret having ever refused him. "Wait, no. I mean yes. I want to go on a date with you. I'm sorry. I just wanted to tease you."
He brightened again but apprehension was still clear on his face. "Really?" he hesitantly asked.
"Yes. One hundred percent. I would love to go on a date with you." I nodded furiously in hopes that he would forgive me. "Will you forgive me? I didn't mean to hurt you."
He let out a soft chuckle, pressing a chaste kiss to my forehead. "I'll always forgive you, little moon."
