I stirred from my sleep and I opened my eyes to a familiar sight. I was in Levi's bedroom.

A heavy weight was draped across in my waist and I looked down to see it was an arm. My heart rate jumped but the warmth it carried led me to believe it was Levi. My back was pressed against his front so I slowly turned my body around until I was facing him.

He was beautiful. Soft snores escaped from his lips and confusion swirled in my mind at the fact that he had actually stayed. I took my time examining his features as I tried to figure out why he hadn't left yet. The sunlight coming through the windows made his tan skin seem as though it was glowing. His hair was a wavy mess atop his head and I fought to urge to run my fingers through it. Instead, I allowed my curiosity to consume me and I reached out and began to trace the scar that marred his face. The puckered skin had long healed, leaving behind a constant reminder of an event I could only hope to learn of.

Suddenly, a hand reached up and grasped onto my hand tracing his face. I froze and scooted away from him, unsure of what the consequences of my actions would be. His eyes fluttered open and they locked with mine. I could see concern swimming in his eyes when he saw the fear on my face but he tightened his grip around my hand before pulling me closer into his embrace.

"Good morning, little moon," Levi huskily muttered.

I decided against responding and focused on calming my heart down, breathing as it slowed to match with Levi's. My mind began racing as I laid in his arms. I almost wanted to push him away and beg him not to get closer to me, not to make me feel something when I knew he would despise me in the end. But I didn't.

I wondered how he was able to stand the coldness of my skin, how he was able to bear with having me as a mate when even my father didn't want me and it wasn't until Levi began stroking my hair that I realized I was crying. I let him hold me and allowed myself to savor the warmth that I knew wouldn't last. I felt myself to cuddle closer in my desperation to ingrain what his arms felt like around me, what it was like to be touched by something other than hatred before it would be ripped away from me like everything I had once cherished.

My sobs turned into sniffles, muted by my face being pressed into Levi's chest. We laid there with only the sound of our breathing to accompany us until he finally questioned, "Do you want to talk about it?"

I softly shook my head and Levi sighed but didn't press me. He pushed me away from him to cup my face and gently wiped the wetness that clung to my cheeks before letting go of me and getting out of bed. I pushed myself up so I was sitting and watched him as he moved around the room, wondering how such a large man could move so fluidly.

Every move he made was precise and calculated, he was powerful and everything about him screamed danger. Yet he was nothing but gentle when he held me. I didn't know which side of him to believe. I didn't know if I could trust myself to make a choice when every touch made me crave for more.

Levi shuffled around in his closet and came out with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt before heading towards the bathroom to change. Once he finished, he made his way over to me and sat down on the bed so I wouldn't have to crane my neck to look at him.

"I know I promised I wouldn't leave you, but I have a meeting and some pack business I need to attend to. Would you like to come with me?"

My eyes widened as I took in his words. I didn't know if I was ready to meet other people, but I also didn't want to be alone again. He seemed to notice the struggle I was having with deciding and assured, "It's okay to say no, Rain. If you don't want to go I won't get mad. I understand if you aren't ready to meet other people."

My heart stuttered. I couldn't comprehend the fact that I was given the choice to refuse. No one had ever taken what I wanted into consideration. Even my body was not my own and yet this man who called himself my mate seemed to value my opinion.
