Chapter 6

Kayla's POV

(Last day of tryouts)
"You ready girls?" I asked Jackie and Suzan as we put on our shoes in the locker room. "Yeah, I'm going to kick ass today just to make sure I get on the team." Suzan said while Jackie nodded. "I heard Luke saying me made the team in history, so maybe that'll convince you to go to at least one game this year!" Jackie laughed as we made our way to the field. "Probably not, I don't like him in that way... Actually I barely like him period." I stated she rolled her eyes. "Yeah, okay" I huffed and joining a group of girls who were stretching.

After practice I was dying as was Jackie and Suzan. "I can't feel my legs..." I whined as I sat down in the bleachers and downed half my bottle of water. "Ugh me either!" Suzan cried out. "Okay girls gather around!" Coach Brook yelled and continued when we were all in a circle around her. "The returnees and I have decided who we want to play with us for this season, and further more." She paused looking at all of us. "Line up ladies!" She ordered, "Okay, when I call you name step forward. Jenna, Megan, Angel, Rachel, Macie, Kristen, Julie, and Zoë." She paused making me even more worried. I grabbed Jackie and Suzan's hands and gave them a light squeeze. " those who names were not called... welcome to the team!" I let a breath I didn't know I was holding in. "We did it baby girls!" Suzan exclaimed and gauged me and Jackie.

"Hey since tomorrow's Friday you guys wanna invite some people over to one of our houses?" Jackie asked suddenly as we were walking to our houses. "I- I don't know Jackie" I stuttered out. She groaned "why not..." "Because you know I'm not the party type and my parents don't want me going to parties." I stated quietly looking at the floor. "Please just ask... If it makes you feel better I'll only invite a few people, okay?" I sighed knowing she wouldn't drop the topic "Fine I'll see if I can... But what if I can't?" I asked thinking out loud. "Then you ask if you can stay the night and have a sleepover instead of a party... Duh" Suzan stated in a matter of factly way. I nodded "I'll see you guys tomorrow" I said turning the corner in the direction of my house.

The next day at lunch Christina, Jackie, Suzan, Riley, and I are sitting at a table with Jack and a few of the football players. "Hey Kayla did you ask your parents?" Suzan asked me making the boys look to me confused. I smiled and nodded "I can go to the 'sleepover'. I still don't like lying." I frowned and she laughed. "I'm confused, what's going on?" Derek, one of the football players asked. Us that knew what's going on laughed. "We're having a party tonight... wanna come?" I asked hesitantly. He smiled wide "Hell yeah! Did you even have to ask?" We all laughed and I nodded "Y'all can come too." Jackie said to all the boys at the table.

"Luke, Cody! Over here!" Brandon yelled over all the people in the cafeteria. Luke nodded and pulled Cody over to our table and I rolled my eyes. "What up guys and children." He said smiling at us girls l. Me and Christina glared at him as he sat down. "You want me to invite Luke to the party?" Jackie whispered in my ear, I chocked on the water I was drinking and started coughing and shaking my head no. "Woah, Kayla you okay?" Jack asked patting my back. Once I caught my breath and stopped coughing I nodded yes. And looked at Luke then back to Jackie "Don't" I pleaded she smiled evilly. "So Luke-" she started but I cut her off by putting my hand over her mouth. "Shut the frick up!" I whispered harshly. Jackie laughed and licked my hand "Ewwww!" I squealed pulling my Han away wiping it off on Jacks shirt. "Like I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted, Kayla, Suzan, and I are having a party. And Kayla wanted to invite you, so what do you say?" I gasped and smacked Jackie in the arm. "Owwwww!" She whined and rubbed her arm. "Well-" Luke started to say but was cut off by the bell, within a matter of seconds I was in the hallway walking to my locker.

Suddenly my locked my shut closed making me jump and drop my things on the floor. "Oh sorry about that." Luke laughed and helped me pick up my things "What do you want Luke? Considering this is the first time you've ever approached me during school hours." He frowned, but just as quickly hid it with a roll of his eyes "Is what Jackie said true?" I tensed up and looked at the floor then back to him "The party is true but not me inviting you" He nodded "Well sense we have the next class together, do you mind if I walk with you?" He said as he looked in my eyes "Why would you want to walk with me? I mean I'm not exactly like your friends, and if your seen with me that will just ruin the beginning of your reputation in high school." I babbled on "Right well i don't care so let's go before were late." My eyes widened as I looked at the clock; it read 1:13. "Frick! The class is on the other side on the school! Let's go!" I said said walking towards my class.

"You know speed walking isn't going to get you there on time." He said from behind me, I smirked and turned to him "Then come on running back let's go." He raised an eyebrow at me "How do you know what position I play?" I smirked "I know people, anyways let's go our class is at the end of the hall and we have like 20 seconds to get there." I said turning back "Your on" he said as he stood next to me "Ready s- go!" I said taking off towards the class. "Hey cheater!" He said sprinting after me. I ran into the class and to my seat in the back by the girls and laughed to my self as Luke came sprinting into the class after the bell went off. "Mr. Wilson tardy for the third time in the first week of school, your not off to a great start. Take your seat." Mr. Johnson said and went to the board to write down today's lesson.

As Luke took his seat he shot me a glance and I did the mature this (note sarcasm) and stuck my tongue out at him, and in return me sent me a smirk and took his seat.

After class I met up with all the volleyball girls and invited them to the party. "Hey I heard you invited Luke to the party, is it true?" Meg asked, I sighed loudly and and rolled my eyes. "My god, rumors spread faster then a wild fire in this school. No I did not Jackie did." She nodded. "Hello Kayla" Luke whispered in my ear making me jump and slap him across the face. "Owww Damn Kayla, you sure do have a good hit" I laughed "Are you okay?" I asked looking over his face. "Yeah I'll live. So-" "Luke let's go we have a team meeting!" The football couch cut him off. He huffed "I'll see you at the party tonight Kayla." I couldn't speak, for some reason. It was almost like a lump in my throat do I nodded and he winked at me. "Awww Kayla's blushing!" Meg yelled making Luke look at me and smile sweetly. "I hate you all!" I said walking away "No you don't and don't forget the party starts at 8:00 so be there by 6:30 so we can get ready!" She yelled after me "Okay I won't!"
