minghao couldn't stop the reoccurring nightmares.

"i don't love you. and i never did. it was all a joke,"
jun had his arms crossed as he looked at the heartbroken boy. "it's not my fault that you fell for it,"
"this... this isn't like you," minghao bit his lip. "you're the kindest person i know- you wouldn't do that."
"thats funny, haohao," jun let out a laugh. "i thought that you knew me better than that. but if you're going to sit there pathetically and do nothing, i'm leaving. i have nothing left to say to you,"
"jun..."
"jun..?"
"..."
"jun?"
—————
"minghao, are you okay?"
jun's voice asked the second he saw minghao. it would be weird to just ask if someone is okay, but with the way that minghao looked when he walked into the living room... yeah, he wasn't okay.
his hair was a mess, his cheeks were pink and tear stained, his eyes were bloodshot, he was humming a song that jun had written for him (it was something that jun constantly sang to him- normally to calm him down), he was wearing jun's sweatshirt (that jun always wanted him to wear but 'it's not my style!'). there was definitely something up.
"i'm... fine. n-no need to worry," minghao attempted in the strongest voice possible. hearing jun's voice just... it reminded him of his nightmare.
jun bit his lip, "are you sure? i'm always here to listen-"
"i said that i'm fine," minghao spoke firmly. "i'm just going to make some food and go back to my room,"
"oh- uh- okay," jun nodded, not wanting to push minghao to speak. he would say something when he wanted to, and jun had to trust that.
the two moved in together about a year into their relationship, but minghao wanted his own room. jun respected his boundaries and agreed. whatever minghao wanted, jun would always make sure that he would get it.
but that day, he couldn't help but start to be a little worried about what happened the previous night.
it's fine, jun. it's only one day.
—————
that wasn't the only day.
for the next week, minghao got the same nightmare. and so for the next week, he avoided jun's presence as much as he could. the only time he left his room was when he had to eat. which he was doing less and less.
the first day, he ate lunch and dinner. then he ate one big lunch and a snack. then he ate a big lunch. then he ate a normal lunch. then he started eating a small bag of chips per day as his meal.
it wasn't like jun wasn't getting worried either. he would constantly knock on the door to minghao's room to check up on him (to which minghao would always say that he was fine- but jun really didn't believe him). then he would leave food outside minghao's door, but whenever he'd check to see if minghao had grabbed it and eaten it, it was always just in the same place that he'd left it.
and minghao wasn't speaking to anyone. jun had tried to figure out what was bothering minghao through his best friend, mingyu. but to his surprise, mingyu was just as clueless.
knock knock
"minghao?"
no response.
"i left some ramen for you in the kitchen,"
"okay," minghao's small voice responded.
"are you seriously alright?"
"i'm really fine. you don't have to keep checking up on me," and then there was something else that minghao mumbled, but jun was unable to hear.
"o-okay. don't trap yourself in there for too long, haohao," jun bit his lip, before adding, "i love you,"
to which he got no response.

"please don't leave me,"
minghao felt something warm around him. not in the dream, but in real life. but he didn't wake up.
"shh, calm down. i'm right here. i'm here. i'm never going to leave you, haohao. i love you, okay?"
"i'll be by your side until you get sick of me. i am here. and i always will be. never doubt that for a second,"
then there was a slight pause, before minghao heard soft singing.
"your hair is as quiet as the dark night
making me think of you from night till dawn
my longing is hard to unravel
a riddle that can't be solvedyou're just like a ray of sunshine in the spring rain
that shines onto my heart
letting that flower bloom quietlyif i walk closer to you little by little
please don't run away,
let me sing softly like this
if you listen to this song
word by word, line by line
can you sit by my side?"and with that, minghao's nightmare turned into a sweet dream.
—————
minghao woke up with his head dug into jun's chest.
"h-huh?"
he didn't remember jun walking into his room last night, even though he slept late. and normally he didn't let jun in his room anyways. so why..?
"good morning, haohao," jun wrapped his arms tighter around minghao, bringing him closer. "did you sleep well?"
"actually, yeah," minghao admitted honestly. while for the last week, jun's voice had made minghao felt scared, this time, it felt soft and calming. like he was safe and loved. "i did,"
"wanna tell me why you've locked yourself in here for the past week?"
"can we just stay like this for a while?"
"of course, my love,"
