Chapter Ten

"So, Foster, uh- how are you?" Keefe asked Sophie as the walked down the halls of Foxfire.

Sophie looked at him curiously, "Why are you nervous?"

"W-Why would you think I'm nervous?"

"Maybe because you asked how I was two minutes ago."

"Well I don't know if you're feeling differently or maybe you're on your period and your mood swings are—maybe I shouldn't have brought that up—does that make things awkward? I know they're a struggle so if you need anything or want mallowmelt in the middle of the night—"

"Keefe!" Sophie interrupted, "You're rambling. What's going on?"

Keefe ran his hands down his face and took a breath, "I was wondering if you wanted to be my girlfriend? I mean I know we aren't really telling people yet but Dex already knows, our bodyguards know, and I'm pretty sure your parents kinda figured it out by now. I just want to be able to introduce you to everyone as my girlfriend when we tell them eventually— and I'm rambling again. So, what do you say?"

"You're cute when you're nervous."

"I meant about being my girlfriend." he laughed.

"Of course, Keefe. I'll be your girlfriend...even though we're practically married."

"What's that supposed to mean?" he raised his eyebrows.

"Dex is already making 'Sophie Sencen' merchandise to sell to the Sophie Foster Fan Club and he's creating this device to see what our future children will look like."

"Well just a guess, but they'll probably be blonde. And I was actually kinda hoping to ditch the whole Sencen name if that's okay with you and everything."

"Really?"

"Yeah, I mean, I know how much you wanted to keep your last name when Grady and Edaline adopted you. Besides, the less of my parents I take with me when we get married, the better."

Sophie's smile grew wide at what he said, "When we get married?"

Keefe's looked down at his hands and his cheeks flushed red.

"I didn't realize we were playing 'Make Keefe Blush'."

"Shut up." Keefe smirked at Sophie and playfully rolled his eyes.

The bell rung in the Foxfire halls signaling the students to get to class.

"Come on, Tiergan's not going to cut us any slack for being late."

"But, Foster, late is my whole personality!"

"Well, while you are keeping your late streak, I will be heading to class."

"I'll be quick this time, I promise." Keefe raised his hands in surrender.

"Don't make promises you can't keep, Keefe."

"I'll walk in forty seconds after you, and that's the quickest I'll be. Deal?"

"You're not even doing anything! All you do is stare out the window and watch the Level Ones get lost."

"Is it a deal or not, Foster?"

Sophie hesitated but realized she was just wasting time. "Hurry up."
