A/N: Be prepared for a bunch of Sokeefe fluff, 1740 words of it.
All she could do was stare. She didn't care how fast her heart was racing or how her hands were shaking or that she had the sudden urge to cry her heart out. All that mattered was that he was there, and she wouldn't let him go.
She put down the food, her bag dropped to the floor, and she cautiously walked towards him. Sophie observed all of the similarities and differences in his look. He was dressed in a navy tunic, black slacks, and a gold pin held in place his midnight cape. His hair was as disheveled as usual but his face was plastered with an expression she couldn't place. And his eyes. His eyes were full of emotions that tore deep into her.
"Foster." was all he said, but it felt like every other word inside him wasn't able to escape his lips.
Sophie grabbed him into a hug that might as well have taken all the air out of him, and stood there for a second while he wrapped his arms around her. She pulled away right before she—
"Ow! What was that for?!" Keefe rubbed his face where he'd just been slapped.
"What do you think? For one, I was scared to death that something horrible had happened to you. Second, you didn't listen to me, or anyone for that matter, when we told you to stay in your room. And lastly, you could have died! If something had happened to you..."
"Foster, I'm here okay. I'm not going anywhere. And... I understand what you're feeling."
"What cause you're an empath?" Sophie retorted.
"No. Because I feel the same way whenever you're the one going straight into danger, and almost get yourself killed."
"But I'm the Moonlark!" she yelled.
"Yeah, you are, but you're also Sophie Foster," he cried and took her hands in his, "and if something were to happen to her... I don't know what I'd do with myself. Just remember, you're not the only one involved in this anymore, so I guess I'll just have to fight alongside you from now on."
"Promise you'll always be here?"
"Always."
She felt a burning in her chest that just drew her closer to him. Keefe's eyes wandered from her lips then back to her chocolate colored eyes. There faces were inches apart and drawing closer together when finally Keefe closed the gap between the two. She was confused with everything she was feeling but at the same time, it all felt right.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-" Keefe started saying after he pulled away from the kiss but Sophie interrupted him by deepening the kiss from before, pulling her hands free of his and wrapping them around his neck. Keefe, still in shock, kissed back and laid his hands on her waist. And this time, she felt the spark. All she knew was that she didn't want the moment to end. Then she heard a faint noise in the hall and remembered... she forgot to close the door. Sophie pulled away quickly and looked to see Ro staring in their direction with a dropped jaw.
"Romhilda, why are you just standing there?" Sophie heard a squeaky voice say from the stairs. Ro turned around and started running down the stairs, grabbing Sandor along the way. Sophie had forgotten that her bodyguard was coming back from his vacation with Grizel that day. Sandor was against the idea of leaving his charge after the battle, but the Council insisted that they take a break for what had to be the first time in two years.
"What's going on?" Sandor asked Keefe's bodyguard as she pulled him down the stairs.
Sophie looked at Keefe who looked back at her with the same, surprised, expression on his face, before they both ran after the two bodyguards, all the way to the first floor where Edaline was still in the kitchen.
