Unlike My Other So Called Friends

Eventually, those poor boys couldn't take all that screaming anymore. Therefore, there was no more touring from the Beatles.

I saw Paul more often, and that made me smile, but as the years passed, he didn't seem as happy.

The band never could agree on anything. There was constant fighting, and it was hard to accomplish work.

One night, he had come home with a bundle of stress on his shoulders, and randomly he asked a question I never thought I'd hear while we cuddled.

"Y/N, I've got a big question to ask you."

"Ok, what is it?"

I had expected him to seal the deal once and for all and marry me, but no, this was about his Beatle family.

"Should I quit the Beatles?"

This stunned me. "Oh-Paul, why would you...what makes you...what would happen?"

"I know... the world would practically end, but I can't take it anymore. I still would love to make music, just on my own."

"Well, I think you should do what's best for you."

He smiled. "Thank you, Y/N. You're the best."

I snuggled into his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. That could send me to sleep almost instantly.

The next day, Paul announced he would leave, which, as predicted, caused an uproar across the universe, and caused his best mate, John, to turn on him. I had to admit, as jealous as I was of their friendship, seeing it dissipate like this broke my heart.

Paul was at a vulnerable state, where the only thing that could calm him was songwriting of his own, which I learned was amazing.

Unexpectedly, I had come home one day to see Paul singing an absolutely beautiful song:

"I used to ride on my fast city line, singing songs that I thought were mine alone, alone. Now let me lie with my love, for the time, I am home, home, home."

"Paul, that was gorgeous!"

He jumped at the sound of my voice. "Oh...you heard it? Well, thanks, love."

"What's it called?"

"Man We Was Lonely. It's not finished yet. You know, I could use your help..."

"Really?"

"Sure, as you may know, I'm making my first solo album, and this is a song on it. Anyway, do you want to do some backing vocals?"

And so I did. We completed that song in a day, reflecting on our accomplishment as we relaxed.

"We made some good progress today, didn't we? It was fun singing with you."

"Yes we did! You did great, I might have you sing with me more often."

Paul wrapped his arms around my waist. "Um, Y/N, can I tell you something?"

"Of course."

"I truly love you, and I want to thank you for sticking by me when everyone else left. You promise you'll never leave?"

I pull him close. "I promise."
