I want you to use your imagination again. Picture your cliché wealthy neighborhood. Big gates and high walls with even bigger yards behind them. Now picture your typical rich caucasian girl with blonde hair and hazel eyes. Not so typical anymore, right? That’s because Melinda is different. Her character goes deeper than just the drunk frat girl at varsity parties. Let me take you back. Way back.

Melinda Dianne Roberts

Daughter of Caroline and Matthew Roberts

Younger sister to the late Carol Roberts

She was born in Miami and grew up in a place famous for housing some of the richest and most famous celebrities of the early 2000s. She had an older sister. Carol. Named after her mother.

One sunny day they were out at the beach spending some quality family time together. Her parents were laying on their towels underneath umbrellas while Melinda and her sister were out closer to the water enjoying the waves splashing against them. Some say it was an unexpected tragedy and others say she got just a little too close to the deeper water. Before Melinda even noticed, Carol was gone. Swept away by the rising tide.

No Screams?

No Cries?

No Calls for help?

Nobody understood how. How did she get away from them so quickly. That day Melinda cried. Not just because her sister wasn’t coming back but because her life began to change.

It took weeks for rescue teams to find nothing. All the money in the world couldn’t bring her back. So what did they do. They decided to restart. In Mountain View. They just happened to move in next door to the Jacksons. Once she had met Rose they became inseparable. Almost poetic in a way.

Until a certain point, their friendship was based on mutual interest, like with most younger kids. Once they began to understand emotions though, they truly became sisters. Melinda is such a stargazer. A dreamer. A philosophist if you want. The point is, she looks at the universe and the world in a way that nobody else does. That’s what made her special.

During senior year at Mountain View Private College, they came to the decision to apply to the same university so they could live together. God willing, they both got accepted and both their parents agreed to the living arrangements.

You want to know how Melinda celebrated?

She sat up until three in the morning listening to love songs just so she could set off a box of fire works in her back yard.

And that’s just how Melinda is. She’s special. You may not notice it at first but once you get to know her, you really do.

Its actually kind of hard to miss.
