Hiccup POV
I looked around myself and saw nothing but the endless sky ahead of me. I changed the position of Toothless' tail fin and steered towards the right. It was a surprisingly warm day with the sun out, but I could see storm clouds approaching.
I rubbed Toothless's head and he hummed in satisfaction. Toothless was a Night Fury, black with green eyes that could look right through your soul. He is my best bud, who understands me better than anyone else. I don't know what I would do without him. He is the one who made me who I am today.
As we were flying towards a cluster of islets, Toothless barrel-rolled several times making me sick. Toothless laughed his dragon laugh and STILL continued to barrel- roll. Unbelievable, after I gave him a nice head rub.
But OK fine, if that's how you wanna play.
Me and Toothless do this little competition quite often when we get bored. We see who can get the other to surrender to whatever we do to each other.
I changed Toothless' tail fin position making him crash into one of the first islets. I laughed out loud seeing him sway a little from the impact.
Toothless recovered and charged towards the water. I sucked in a deep breath before he plunged in the ice cold ocean. My outfit managed to not completely soak me, but I was still shivering.*httyd 2 outfit*
I signaled to Toothless to go back up, but he stayed put in the water. He looked up at me with those eyes, waiting for me to give in.
Nope, not gonna happen! He always wins.
Unfortunately, my oxygen was running out and my lungs were burning. Uuugh, fine.
With the last breath I had I said, with bubbles escaping my mouth: "OK fine, you win! You always win!"
Satisfied, Toothless swam to the surface and shot up into the sky. I took a deep breath, while coughing up some of the water I swallowed. I started laughing when Toothless victoriously shot a plasma blast in the sky.
As we both caught our breath I looked to see where we landed after our little competition. We were meanwhile already in the middle of the group of islets.
"OK bud, let's concentrate now on what we were here for" I excitedly said.
Me and Toothless have been practicing precision flying and speed for the past 3 years. We've gotten pretty good at it. Better than anyone else on Berk anyway.
Toothless shot forward, twisting and diving around and over the little islets. I changed the positions according to the movements. Toothless then dived vertically towards the water and in the last moment, pulled up to fly parralell to the ocean. I spotted a few Scauldrons in the water, soaring with us in the same direction.
We started to climb back up, away from the sea, higher and higher into the sky. We leveled when we were high enough to see Berk from here. Toothless glanced at me and made a humming sound, as if he was asking me a question. I knew what he asked me.
"Alright bud, let's do this!" I shouted.
I unhooked myself from Toothless and tilted to the side. I started falling face first. Toothless was falling beside me, his tongue sticking out. I laughed. He always looks so silly and cute when he does that.
"What's up?" I grinned at him, as we carelessly fell.
After a few moments of free-falling, I activited my wing suit. I abruptly stopped falling and was now gliding towards Berk. It felt so good to feel so free, soaring in the sky while having no worries. The wind in my wings and the ability to go anywhere I wanted. Toothless was gliding beside me, his wing tip touching my fingertips. He now and then shot a plasma blast in front of me to keep me level.
A Monstrous Nightmare appeared next to us, a few meters away. It didn't look aggressive so I didn't worry. It was a female. Purple-red. Still young and playful.
I sighed. I always have to think of facts and statistics whenever I see a dragon. It's the nerd part of me.
We were close to Berk now, so I angled my body towards a patch of grass in the middle of Berk. I quickly calculated my landing. I smoothly glided parralell to the ground and put my feet down. I ran a few steps to keep my balance and stopped right in front of the stairs to the Great Hall.
"And he sticks the landing!" I smirked triumphantly.
Toothless landed a bit more clumsily next to me.
"Never thought I'd best you at landing, bud," I commented smugly.
Toothless slapped me with his prosthetic fin tail and snarled. OUCH! Prosthetics are hard!
"I also have a prosthetic and you don't see me complaining about it!" I shot back.
I looked at the setting sun and figured it was around 5 o'clock. Dad normally would be in the Great Hall at this time, dealing with the villager's matters.
I climbed up the stairs and entered the Great Hall. Stoick the Vast, my dad, was sitting on the chief's throne with a tired and annoyed expression on his face. No one else was here which means the audience was over.
My dad was a tough Viking. He was big and broad with a lot of muscle with a huge beard. Like, HUGE, ENORMOUS.
And he was a great chief. He made wise decisions and thought about everyone in the tribe while making them."Hey dad!"
"Ah Hiccup, you're back!" He said in his deep voice.
"Yip," I said popping the p: "So, anything new?"
"Not exactly, but I actually wanted to talk to you, son," he said, sounding slightly nervous.
"OK?" I murmured, wondering what made Stoick the Vast uncomfortable.
Dad shifted in his seat and folded his hands in front of him.
"So..." clearing his voice he continued: "well, I think you should finally settle in and marry. Eighteen is the normal age where you marry. And frankly I'm not getting any younger."
I sighed. We had this conversation several times already since I turned eighteen. And everytime I told him that I would marry when I thought the time was right. And when I found the right girl. But recently he hasn't said anything so I thought he'd given up. But I guess he just can't get it in his thick skull.
"Aw come on dad!" I said, getting angry: "I told you a thousand times before, I will get married when I want to and when I feel like it's the right time!"
"I don't understand, our ancestors, including me had no problem finding a wife at the age of eighteen!" he boomed, also getting angry.
"Well, I'm not like you or the other vikings! We are in a new century, dad! Times change," I said, my voice echoing in the Hall.
Toothless nudged me and I gently rubbed his head. I tried to calm myself down with Toothless' even breathing and heartbeat.
"Well at least try and look for a wife," dad said, in a soft voice, realising he's gone too far.
"You can't force me," I snapped back walking out.
I jumped on Toothless and we took off. I didn't care where we went, I just wanted to get away from here.
