Astrid POV

The floor started to uncontrollably shake and I jumped up and grabbed Tiki. Is it an earthquake? But all the birds outside the clearing are completely calm. Is it a mini earthquake? Is there even such a thing? Or is there an avalanche? Don't be stupid Astrid, there are no mountains for miles and its summer. So what's happening?

I clipped Tiki's wings so that she couldn't fly away if she became scared. I was about to make a run for it when a bright flash appeared out of nowhere, right next to me near the boulder. It blinded me and next thing I knew, I was catapulted off the floor and flew a few metres into the air. I landed at the edge of the clearing roughly on my back.

There was a ringing in my ears and my head throbbed painfully. When I tried to move my left leg, a sharp pain emitted from it and travelled through my whole body. Shit, I think I broke or sprained it. I scrunched up my face in pain as I tried to sit up.

"Tiki?" I called out, but I could barely hear my own voice from the ringing in my ears. A faint squawk came from nearby and I looked in that direction. Tiki was standing on the floor a few feet away. Thank God.

I stayed sitting down for a few minutes until the ringing in my ears stopped and the throbbing in my head dulled. My stupid foot is still Hella sore though.

I carefully stood up and tried to put as much of my weight on my right foot. I looked towards the centre of the clearing to see what happened.

Around the boulders, I could see five figures. Oh my God, are those humans?! Shit, shit, shit! I hobbled as quickly as I could and saw that they were all unconscious. Please, don't be dead, please! I knelt down to the guy closest to me.

He was short and stocky with black hair. I quickly checked his pulse and sighed with relief when I felt his heartbeat.

The next two people were undoubtedly twins. The boy was tall and lanky and, he had long, blonde dreadlocks. The girl had the same structure as her brother and basically looked exactly like him. Just had a few girl features.

The next one was a big, very thick, guy with short hair.

As I checked the pulse of the last person, I couldn't help but stare at him longer. He had auburn hair and was very handsome. He was tall and I could tell that he was toned. Oh my God, look at that chiseled jaw... Astrid what has gotten into you?! You just met this boy and you're already drooling all over him? He technically hasn't even met you yet.

Ok, ok, ok, let me concentrate. I have to first wake these people up. Should I call an ambulance? No. How would I explain how they got there in the first place? That they appeared in a bright flash of light? They'll think I'm crazy! Or they'll think I was hallucinating. Was I hallucinating? No, I know I saw all of that and I have my injuries to prove it. I uncomfortably shifted my injured leg and winced in pain.

I glanced at the five figures and frowned. Their clothes are odd. They seem... old. They were either wearing fur, leather or cotton. Are they cosplayers? And the hot guy is wearing some kind of armour out of scales. Oh my word. How dare I think that he's hot! I  don't drool over boys! Ever! Uuhg, why is this guy I've never met making life so difficult!?

I started to lean closer to his face and noticed a few freckles covering his face and a thin scar on his chin. I also just noticed that he was missing his left foot and had a prosthetic replacing it. A really old-fashioned prosthetic.

All of a sudden, forest-green eyes snapped open and stared right at me.

I screamed and jumped away from his body. The sudden movement sent a wave of pain through my body from my foot.
