Chapter 9
Renny gave herself another two days at home but by Thursday she was ready for work. More than ready. She was climbing the walls, after re-organizing her closet, and the kitchen cupboards, then the linen closet, her make up case, the fridge and then moving on to the fine detail bathroom cleaning and her room was completely spotless ceiling to floor, all the while pondering on the idea of adding hot food possibly creating more business to Beanz.
Sitting around gave her too much time to think, she preferred to be busy, or with her mom for company to relax. She didn't do well alone too often. Once in a while, sure, but the day before was too quiet, it tipped her over the edge.
She had finally won the battle, she was barely limping any more and it had gone back down to normal size. "I'll sit, don't worry, I'll mainly stay at the register" She assured her mom, but even then she found her mind trailing off to how she would change it, what could she see - and that led her eye to picking out things that needed to be done. New paint, a few of the tables could be replaced, and new awning would be nice and some more chalk art.
She looked at the small coffee menu
"You're right mom" She spoke aloud as her mother was in the back bringing out the ordered bakery goods and displayed them along the counter
"I know. About what" she asked as she stacked donuts on a raised cake platter in glass casing
"We do need something else on the menu" She looked around "this is a big space, plenty of tables, we could add more to the menu. What about hamburgers or hot dogs?"
"Absolutely not" She protested "This isn't a burger joint"
Sandwiches?"
"There's that sandwich place down the road, the chain place"
"Eggs, breakfast?"
"I don't know, but something" Carole put her hand on her hip.
Melody was thrilled to get Carole's call
"I have so much I'd love to show you! I have ideas, I've been working on a new sauce, and I'd love your opinion"
"Mine?"
"Well yes" Melody said into the phone "You and Renny are successful business women, your cafe is lovely and if I can in any way help, i'd be honored"
"Well then, Melody we look forward to it, how about Saturday night when the shop is closed. We'll have some wine and throw around ideas"
Melody was so excited, she hung up with a very high pitched 'cant wait! ! bye'
"She's thrilled" Carole said, putting her phone on the counter "Lets just see"
Saturday was busy, busier than usual. It was mid summer and people came out to enjoy the sun while enjoying all of the summers bounties the locals had to offer.
But now late afternoon, Beanz Cafe was closed.
Melody had gathered items the night before prepping and planning for the meeting. Cooking was her passion, and as much as she loved working with her brother, they had a business that was finally able to support them if not spoil them, and she did love the foods part of the farming, only agreeing to buy it with him if in the long term the property could support her ideas, if they ever came to be.
"Brody does all the work with the animals" She explained as she chopped and fussed over the food she had spread out over the counter "He's a farmer at heart, but he's kind of afraid of cows, so we went with goats. They're funny little things actually, a lot of personality."
