I pulled out my phone just to check the screen. No messages from Niklaus. Six months, since I've seen him. Five since I've last talked to him. Four since he had texted. I sipped on my coffee putting my phone down and smiled till my face hurt when I saw the waiter coming over with beignet. Cafe du monde is my favorite place to eat in New Orleans.

Hayley should be here by now, I thought to myself, wondering where she could be. The last time we spoke we exchanged some harsh words. She had confessed to me that she organized the massacre for a deal to get information on her birth parents. All it did was clarify what I had already told her.

Jazz music filled the streets as I finished my breakfast. I smiled all the time here. When I moved back here I adapted to these vampires' diets. Strait from the vein of tourists. It's become my guilty pleasure. Rubbing my temples I thought about how much I had gotten done for the wolves and what I should work on next. Stopping the raids on the werewolves in the bayou was a good start but I need more.

In between enforcing Marcel's rules, training night walkers to fight and just regular family duties I had been making supply runs to them. On top of that's keeping up with my responsibilities prior to Niklaus. Having one free day is just what I needed. Nothing to catch up on, no meetings to make, just relaxing.

Sitting in the cafe I could see over Jackson Square; painters, jewelry makers, fortune tellers. The sun was bright and warm with a cool summer breeze. Taking a deep breath in was when my relaxation broke. A familiar scent hit first, then a blonde haired hybrid taking a seat with a witch.
