Song: Are You Bored Yet? by Wallows

Willa:

Despite me trying to sway my parents from not inviting Ethan over for dinner, they did keep insisting until I no longer could not fight anymore. Ethan didn't mind either way because they already sort of know my parents so he isn't all that nervous about eating dinner with them. He just needs to get off from work which will give my parents time to make dinner. I just told him what time dinner might be ready and my address. From what I heard about Ethan's job, it seems like it is very busy and also very...modest? He always wears suits which I haven't seen him wear often back in high school. It sort of seems like a job Alexander works in. From what I remember in the news when I was first in the hospital, Alexander was in the news and apparently is the owner of a large company. It's why I questioned so much as to why someone like him would be hanging out with someone like me. Alexander is a businessman and I wouldn't be surprised if he loved work more than anything else although he was also supposed to get married too. I never did ask Ethan what type of work he does but I am sure that is something to do with business with the suits he has been wearing.

Even though my parents have known Ethan for a while, they were still making it a large deal with making this dinner. They were cooking a fancy dinner which was very unnecessary. I was attempting to help but my parents didn't want me to screw anything up so I was left just setting up the table. "Is this really necessary? Ethan has been here for a while and I really don't think he will mind that we have a NORMAL dinner." I say as I put down the utensils. We have never been much as "proper" eaters who have a soup spoon or anything but we do have them for just special occasions. This was one of those reasons to not use them. "Because we are grown adults and we are having dinner with someone who hasn't been around for our normal dinners. We think we should just do a proper dinner to show we aren't animals." I rolled my eyes at my dad's statement. We are normal people who eat normal dinners but this was just going a bit far. I am sure that if we eat a normal dinner, we would still look like we are eating like humans and not like wild animals.

"I am just saying that this really isn't necessary when he already knows us and we know him." My dad glanced at me as he was chopping up some bell peppers before going back to his task. My mom then puts a hand on his shoulder, smiling when he looks up at her. "Willa, we just want to know the man more. You have been talking to him more than when you guys were in high school and he just seems interested in you. This dinner is just a way to know him and know his intentions with you. The setting of the place is just important for us." I look at them, still a bit confused about what she said. His intentions? Ethan and I never really talked a lot when we were in high school and when we did hang out, he was dating his girlfriend, Katy, so there was nothing really to make me feel attracted to him. But talking to him now, I have been able to get to know him better and understand him. I know he isn't going to be the same person he was in high school because who really stays the same forever? Getting to know Ethan though, has made this whole experience easy. He is the only guy I really remember and I am able to see that evolution of his growth from when he was in high school to now. It's easier with him because I actually remember him.

When he and I were in high school, I always remembered him as this sweet guy who would help out with everything and always so determined. He dated Katy since junior year of high school and they seemed like the most sweetest couple out there. When he told me that they broke up when I saw him back at the market, it surprised me because they were so close. He seems happy though even knowing they aren't together.

There is just this thing about him that makes me feel...calm. But I don't know. I still have this issue with Alexander that I can't ignore forever.

"Willa, you should ready as we finish getting the food prepared. We don't want to look crazy in front of Ethan." Mom says as she wipes her hand with a towel.
