His words, his confession... It all cut so deep. It felt like a knife had been stabbed into my heart and twisted, yet there was a huge relief along with it. It hurt because it reminded me how gullible I am, or was, and how easily I was manipulated and lead on. But finally not only do I have closure I also no longer think I went crazy. "Blake, did you hear me?" I snap back into reality, as much as I can. I wipe the tears from my cheeks. "Uh, no sorry. What did you say?" He gives a light sigh and says "I said I told you this because you deserved to know what went on behind the scenes during... everything." After he finishes the tears start back up. "Um, I have to go to the bathroom. I'll be back." I answer and without thinking I grab my phone and run to the bathroom, not because I have to go but because it is one of the only places that has reception. I dial Skylar's number and calm myself down enough that she won't realize something is wrong. It rings a few times before she picks up, but she does as soon as she can. "Hey Blake, what's up? We just finished up here at camp." I calm down at the sound of her voice. "Nothing much, I just miss you a lot. My lunch break is almost over though, so I don't have very long to talk. How did today go?" I rush out. She sighs. "It wasn't nearly as good as last week when I first met you. That day truly was magical." I smile at the thought and her corny remark. "It really was. I hope to feel that way with you forever, I never want to lose you." It takes all my strength to not cry. Despite how hard I try she can pick up on my distress "Blake, did something happen?" I internally panic. "No, of course not. I just wanted to tell you how much I love you. I should get going the bell rings in a few minutes and I still have some food left. I'll talk to you later, maybe you could pick me up from school today and we could go on a little date?" I smile. She says "Yeah, that sounds great, text me your school address and time of dismissal. I love you, and I'll see you later. I'm sorry you have to go so soon" I feel much better after hearing her say those words. "I love you too." and I hang up. I let one more wave of tears out as I continue to sit in the corner of the bathroom with my knees to my chest.
I stand up from my sitting position and go to leave. When I leave the bathroom, Jessica is standing by the door, entering. We make brief eye contact, and I can tell she heard part of my conversation. I'm not sure how much she heard or how she interpreted it, but she doesn't question me so I continue on my way to the cafeteria. I get back to see Tucker sitting with his friends at a separate table. He is sitting a little too close to his best friend and has his hand supporting his lower back... But I'm not going to bring it up, it isn't too important. I walk over and put my arm around his neck and say "Hey, I'm back. Do you want me to eat over here?" He waves me off. "No, the bell is going to ring soon, it's pointless for you to move over here. I'll see you in class babe." He kisses me on the cheek. I grab my things and head to class early, trying not to gag at the interaction we just had. I forget how much of a dick he can be around his actual friends. I go ahead to my next classes and finally finish the slow school day. Once the final bell rings, I race to the front of the school as quickly as I can to get to see Skye. I didn't even have a chance to tell Tucker, it's been a busy day with all the preparation for graduation and our final exams in a month. I shoot him a quick text that says "Hey Skye is going to pick me up today, I'll see you tomorrow morning." and I shut my phone off. I forgot to charge it last night and it will die any minute now, plus everything I need will be here soon. I look around the parking lot and see Skylar's light blue car parked among the others and her in the front seat. My heart jumps just at seeing her, it's been too long. Well, it's only been two days, but that's long enough for me. I put my bag in the back of her car and climb in the front seat. "Hey!" She exclaims excited to see me. Without thinking I kiss her on the lips before I respond. When we pull away she says "I missed you too" then smirks and chuckles a bit.
She exits the school parking lot and begins to drive. "let's go to my house today, I have a perfect idea" I smile. I've never been to her house before, but I can't wait. The thought of going into her home is invigorating. She adds "But first I want to stop somewhere, but it needs to be surprise so I'm going to blindfold you." I laugh and reluctantly oblige. She drives for 10 or 15 minutes and stops someplace. "Now wait here, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes" Within minutes she is back in the car and continues driving. I laugh again "This is so weird, it better be worth it." I smile imagining her face right now. I smell some sort of food, I'm not entirely sure what though. After about another half hour of driving, she pulls into what I think is her driveway. She parks the car and after turning it off, she says "I'll be right back." She is only gone for a minute or two but it feels like forever to be alone in this parked and quiet car. She opens the car door and pulls off the blindfold before adding "Because I'm a lifeguard at the beach they pay half of my mortgage for me to live close to the beach. It's more efficient. Now come on, follow me inside." She grabs my hand and leads me inside. Her house is fairly small and right next to the beach. It's a sight to be seen for sure. The living room is fairly open and has a small flat screen TV on the wall opposite of the couch. The kitchen is right next to the living room, in the corner of the house. There is a hallway to the right of the front doorway that leads to one master bedroom and a small bathroom. The house is so comfy and feels... warm. It feels like I'm welcomed and meant to be here with her. Behind the couch a small cat emerges, they rub against the edge of the couch and gives a small meow. "Awwwww" I blurt out. Even though I don't have any pets, they truly are my weakness. Skylar bends down and picks up the cat and cradles them. They scream in her arms during the brief time she holds her "This is my baby girl, Cassy. She can be a handful sometimes, but I love her unconditionally. She doesn't typically take a liking to new people so beware of her attacks." I chuckle, most cats are like that. "I love cats. But we don't have any pets. I'm not entirely sure why, but my parents weren't really the type to have pets." After she sets Cassy down on the floor I kneel down and reach my hand out to her. "Is she friendly?" I ask. Skylar laughs, almost a snort "Rarely. It took me an entire year to get her to be nice to me and she still hates visitors, not that I have them very often." Cassy comes up and nudges her head against my hand. I begin to pet her and she starts to purr. "Awwww, she's such a sweetie!" I say as a squeal. Skye stands back in shock, her mouth wide open. "How in the hell did you do that?" I chuckle, "She likes me. She can tell how much I love you and doesn't see me as a threat." She laughs and says "I'm sure" with pure sarcasm at the shock of seeing how friendly Cassy is to me. She then pulls me off the ground and into an embrace. "Now come on, I have a surprise for you"
