Lisbon's POV
This case had been exhausting. Jane was up to his old tricks and making it hard to work with him on the case. They were in Twin Falls, Idaho for the last 3 days trying to figure out how a Senator ended up dead there with a female prostitute, when he was gay and was last seen in Florida. He was being investigated for securities fraud. Mr. I-Know-It-All was snippy and aloof around her and was driving her and the team crazy. The case finally wrapped up an hour ago... but the paperwork was going to be a beast since Jane managed to piss off the Chief of local law-enforcement and the Senator's brother – a very rich oil baron.
She swiped her key and entered her room. As she showered, her mind went back to 'The fight'. She still didn't know how it took such a bad turn. She knows she went over the line, but he pushed her too hard that morning and she'd reacted badly. But it's not like he was being rational either. She scrubbed the shampoo in her hair vigorously as she remembered all the flirting he was doing with Kim during this case. If he was trying to get a rise from her, he was going to wait a long time she thought. She finished up and sat on the bed. She was hungry. Maybe she should go see Jane and ask him to go out and eat and they could talk.
She stood in front of his room feeling undecided and excited at the same time. Finally, she knocked on the door and waited. Kim answered the door. She checked the room number to be sure she had the right one, but then saw Jane sitting on the sofa with a take-out spread.
"Hey Lisbon. I thought you were turning in for the night," Kim said a little too breathlessly.
"I was, but I was hungry. I was coming to check if Jane wanted anything," she said feeling a hot blush spread on her cheeks and wanting the ground to swallow her whole in that moment.
"We already picked up Chinese, if you want to join-"
Jane appeared behind her. "Lisbon hates Chinese food?" he said dismissing her. "As you can see, we have food. Thanks for offering. Good night Lisbon." Then he closed the door.
Hot tears sprang to her eyes. He'd just humiliated her on purpose. She always knew he had a cruel streak, he'd even admitted to it himself that he could be heartless and uncaring. She'd just never been on the receiving end of it. What a giant jerk. Her appetite was gone now, and she headed back to her room. If she could, she would leave this town tonight, but she couldn't – she'd have to face him and Kim tomorrow.
