Victoria's POV:
I wake up at around 10 today. It's obviously the first day I've been able to sleep in since school started, so it's a nice relief not hearing my annoying alarm for once. I'm also meeting Frank at our neighborhood park today in a about 3 hours, so I decided to get up now. I go in the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth as always, and then go to choose some clothes. It's not like I'm going to school, so I figure I don't need to work as hard at choosing an outfit today. It's pretty hot out today, so I choose my pair of black denim shorts instead of jeans, and just a plain black T-shirt. I still do my usual eyeliner, and just brush my hair to get the tangles out and my bangs in place, not wanting or needing to go through the hassle of straightening it today. I then grab my phone and head downstairs. I see my dad sitting on the couch in the living room with the TV on, and he says good morning to me and I say it back. My mom is in the kitchen, making what smells like waffles or pancakes.
"Good morning Victoria!" She says to me.
"Good morning mom!" I say back to her. Most kids my age obviously think being around their parents is annoying, but since I basically only see my parents on the weekends, I love the time I do get with them. Plus, it's not like they're extremely strict on me. They understand that I'm a 17-year-old senior in high school and can pretty much take care of myself.
"I made waffles for breakfast, they're already done so you can just get them now." My mom says.
"Ok." I go over and take a plate, put a couple waffles on it, and then grab the syrup and a fork before going and sitting at the table. This is another thing I love about my parents being home. The weekend is the only time I actually get a good breakfast like this, instead of just a Pop Tart or a cup of yogurt like I usually quickly grab on school mornings.
As I start eating, my phone buzzes, showing that I got a text from Frank.
F: hey we're still meeting at the park today at 1 right?
V: yeah, remember to meet me in front of my house at 12:55
F: rad
I put my phone back down, after checking the time to see that it was still only 10:45. Still around 2 more hours. I decide to remind my mom that I'm going to see Frank today. I know I texted her and asked her yesterday, but with all the work she does, she might have forgotten. I don't want her freaking out when she sees me leaving.
"Hey mom, remember I'm meeting Frank today at the neighborhood park at 1," I tell her.
"Yes, I remember you asking about that yesterday. I'm ok with it, since you're working on something for school together. Just wondering though, how come you two are meeting at the park? Couldn't you just go to his house or even tell him to come here?" She asks.
"You would've actually been OK with me bringing him here? I thought you and dad don't really like him. But anyway, we have to record each other talking for this project, so we decided on the park since it's really quiet and there's never anyone there." I said back. Of course I was lying, which I hated lying to my parents, but what was I supposed to say? Tell her that I'm going to the park with Frank to talk about how our English teacher is a vampire who told me I'm his mate yesterday?
"You're doing something that's related to school, so yes I would have been OK with it. But your decision does sound reasonable, you shouldn't have any trouble recording yourselves in that quiet park." She says.
"Yeah, I'm glad it's really close to both of our houses." I say.
"Me too. Well, good luck, make sure you work hard on this project. This is your senior year after all, your work is the most important this year." She explains to me.
