Episode Three, Part 3:
Viva La VidaTough girl whose soul aches.
Big girls cry when their heart is breaking.
After their meeting, Kodiak and Wynn headed straight for the medic tent, relieved to see Elara sitting upright on the bed as Quill and Bas kept her company.
"Hey," Wynn breathed, smiling sympathetically as Aeryn and Fenn met the Sovereigns half-way. "Is she gonna be okay?"
Aeryn nodded in response, reaching forward and squeezing onto his hand reassuringly. "As Fenn said, no talking for a few days, and watch out for her breathing: any strange sounds, then send her back here. But we're confident she'll be okay."
Kodiak hurried passed them after extending his gratitude, eager to make his way over to Elara, with Wynn following closely behind.
"Thank gosh," Quill breathed at the sight of them. "Does this mean we can escape?"
Elara swatted his arm, holding back her laughter for fear that it might hurt, but finding amusement in his teasing all the same.
"Yeah, you're free to go," Wynn ruffled Quill's hair, trying to push him away, but Quill dodged his hands. As they both left, Wynn sat on the bed opposite Elara, whilst Kodiak sat down next to her, dropping a chipped whiteboard and marker onto her lap.
"So you can talk to us," Kodiak said, knowing already that she was intrigued.
Already missing being able to speak, Elara whisked the cap of the marker, writing down her first question. 'Talk about what?'
"...Diego," Wynn was reluctant to say his name, but he knew that beating around the bush wouldn't add to the anxiety his sister was most likely feeling.
'I'm glad I can't talk,' she wrote on the board, doodling a frowning face next to her words, earning a gentle laugh from Kodiak.
'I want to forget what happened. You don't need to say anything.'
"Actually, we do," Wynn said, looking to the Sovereign in a realisation that it was going to be tougher than they expected.
Elara shook her head firmly, sealing the lid on the pen to demonstrate her refusal.
"You're forgetting that you can still hear us," Kodiak teased, prodding at her sides with a hope to make things more lighthearted, but she only pulled away. "I'm sorry, Ell," he said, setting his hand on her knee, "but we have to talk about this."
The young girl sighed, clearly reluctant to comply with their wishes, but she didn't have a choice. She shrugged, fiddling with the marker in her hand as she waited for them to speak.
"As part of the alliance, Blood Riders will be coming into Basilisk... As in our camp, for shelter." Wynn clarified, taking responsibility of informing Elara as it was his idea in the first place.
She whipped her head up, eyes wide with both fear and anger, looking back and forth between them both and trying to understand who she felt most betrayed by: her brother, who was her protector - willing to take in the man that had almost killed her, or Kodiak - the Sovereign who had spent his entire life at war with the very Clan he was now trying to bring into their home.
Breathing heavily, a result of her rage and injury, Elara forced the lid off the pen once again and furiously began writing, sinking the ink of the marker deep against the board.
'WHAT THE HELL!?' She wrote, almost shoving the board into Wynn's face. He pushed it away, trying not to roll his eyes as he allowed Kodiak to see.
