Episode Five, Part 1:
Reversal Paradox

I'll see you're an echo of a sound I can't get back. Where did all of our
time go? What is it that we don't know we're missing? There is no
hope in photos if I can't remember the feelings within them.

Wynn crawled through the air vents that ran between each room in the Commander's building, unable to know which direction he was going in anymore, just that he needed to get out.

He passed an opening of the vent, forcing the shutters to move down so he could catch a glimpse into what was on the other side: it was a room - nothing special about it, just an empty room but he couldn't be caught inside. He knew that once he had made it out of the building, the guards wouldn't know who they were looking for anymore, and he could slip away unnoticed, so he continued along the vents, crawling for what felt like hours until he forced himself through the shutter and out onto the ground below.

He hurried to catch his breath, forcing himself to his feet as he glanced around, trying to make sense of his surroundings in the dark. He was lucky enough to have ended up at the backside of the building - away from the City centre, and the forest was right in sight, offering him plenty of shelter until he could cross the forcefield again.

He made a dart towards the trees, refusing to stop until he knew he was as far away from the buildings as he could possibly get, and burrowed himself a ledge of mud that shielded him away from anything that was behind him.

He knew Dreea and Kodiak would be anxiously waiting to hear from him, but he couldn't bring himself to do anything for a while other than lean back against the dirt, close his eyes and try to recall what had just happened...

She had really been there - right in front of him. He had held her in his hands, if only for a moment, but he had held her again...

It was a lot to take in; what was once impossible was now his reality, and as much as his heart had begged him otherwise, he had to leave her behind again.

Unable to take any more of his own thoughts, Wynn pulled his radio out from his pocket, relieved to find that it hadn't fallen off whilst he was in the vents and called his people.

At the Refuge, Kodiak, Dreea, Quill and Elara were gathered in one of the huts, unable to distract their minds from all the possibilities of what could have happened. There was no doubt about what Wynn had done: the missing forcefield timer was proof enough that he had ventured into The City, but they had all figured out before they even realised it was gone. It seemed that no matter how much of a Sovereign Wynn had become, he was and always would be the same person when it came to Sol: someone who would risk everything for her.

As he was pacing around, Kodiak's radio began to buzz in his pocket, and everyone's attention was immediately on him, not needing to ask who was calling.

"What the hell were you thinking!?" Kodiak spat, not letting Wynn get a word out before he began giving him an earful. He couldn't even shield his frustration for Elara's sake - who was right by his side - just as worried for her brother as the others were.

"I saw her! I saw her..." Wynn repeated his words, almost having to remind himself that it was real as he breathed heavily against the radio.

No one knew how to reply; they weren't sure what they were expecting to hear from him, but it wasn't that. It didn't feel like it was truly something achievable for any of them.
