Episode Four, Part 4:
Frequency IllusionShe tells me that I'll be alright, and for a second
it feels like I believe her 'cause I forgot the way that I felt. After the discovery of the forcefield, Dreea, Wynn and Diego were quick to get back to the Refuge, anxious to get some answers from Chessca so they could find a solution to their obstacle.
With all of their people having settled down in a determination to get their first decent rest in days, it allowed Diego and the Sovereigns to gather in one of the huts without the worry of being interrupted.
"How did it go? Did you reach The City?" Kodiak asked, already worried that they hadn't been gone long. He knew how long Chessca had said it would take to travel to The City from the refuge, and the duration that they had been gone for didn't allow for much to happen.
"Yes, we found The City," Dreea answer, careful to let her voice sound too relieved, "but-"
"But... Of course, there's a 'but,'" Kodiak dropped his head, leaning up against the large table in the centre of the hut as he waited for the bad news to hit him.
"There's a forcefield surrounding the perimetres of The City," Dreea said.
"A- A forcefield?"
She nodded.
"Man, was I unprepared to hear that..." He shook his head in disbelief, trying to comprehend what it will be like when he finally sees it in person. He had only ever read about them in books or heard them mentioned occasionally when he was young and in training. "I'm assuming we can't get through it?"
"That's where we stand right now," she confirmed, "but we need to radio Chessca and see if she knows about it, or how to take it down without completely blowing our cover."
As she spoke, Wynn retrieved Sol's radio and passed it over to Dreea, hopeful that it wouldn't be long until they received an answer, giving that it was early morning and everyone in The City was beginning to spread and start their day.
"Chessca, come in. We have some news."
Thankfully, it didn't take long for the girl to accept the call. Knowing that the last time they had spoken, they had been close to making it out of the DeadLands, she was sure to keep the radio close to her at all times.
"Hey. Did you make it to the Refuge alright? Are you guys safe?"
"Yeah, we're fine," Dreea replied. "Only 12 casualties altogether, no one whose role was too fundamental to the plan," she glanced over at Diego, regretful to be admitting that the losses they faced - mainly Riders - weren't anyone close to Sol or who play an important part in breaking her out of The City.
The man sighed, reluctant to let her comment slide, but not having much choice.
"But we need to talk to you about the forcefield."
"The what?" Chessca wasn't sure if she had heard the Sovereign correctly.
"There's a forcefield that surrounds The City and a decent section of the forest surrounding it. ...You didn't know, did you?"
"No! I had no clue! Honestly-"
"It's okay," Dreea cut her off before she could become too panicked. "We believe you. But until we know more about it, nothing can happen as far as the plan goes. We need you to find out what you can about it: how it works, how to get it down if we need it to. Can you do that?"
