~Six months later~

I walked into Gene's living room, giving him and Nick a smile and sitting on the couch. "Hiya curly! How's the baby?" "Just as good as always," Gene replied with a smile. I nodded, looking at the two of them before raising an eyebrow. "Wait I forgot, how old is Nicky?" "He's six months. Almost seven. Why?" Gene replied

I shrugged, returning to my phone. "Just curious," I said with a faint smile. "Ace, what do you know that I don't?" Gene asked slowly. I shrugged again, smile growing a bit. "Juuust curious." Gene gave me a scowl, leaning over to cover Nick's ears with his hands, much to the baby's confusion. "Paul Ace Daniel Frehley-Criscuola, what the fuck do you know that I don't?" he growled.

I sat up, giving him a look of mock horror. "Gene! Such language around the child!" I cried. Gene let out a sigh, dropping his hands and rolling Nick the ball again, watching with a smile as Nick picked it up, hands flailing wildly before he accidentally threw it back at Gene. "Seriously, what do you know?"

"I was just wondering how old he was because I was curious as to when he'd start teething! Or is he already?" I said, giving Nick a smile which he returned, eyes crinkling adorably. "Oh. Yeah I'm not looking forward to that stage. But no, he hasn't started yet. Thankfully," Gene said, catching the ball and rolling it to Nick.

"Gosh, he's just so cute!" I cried after a pause. "Like he's just such an adorable little bundle of adorableness! Has he started talking yet?" "Little bit. He's called Shannon 'Mama' and all that but he hasn't said my name. Yet." In response, Nick held out his arms toward Gene. "Dada!" he burbled. Gene and I stared at each other, eyes wide, before a huge smile spread across his face and he looked back at Nick, nodding. "Yeah! That's me, I'm your dad. Good job, bugaboo," he said, picking him up with a laugh.

"Aw curly he's precious," I gushed, resting my chin on my hand. Gene looked like he was about to cry as he sat Nick back on the floor, supporting him a bit. "He really is," he murmured, before turning around. "Hey, baby! Nick just said my name!" he shouted.

Shannon walked into the room, giving Gene a huge smile. "Aww! That's amazing! Good job Nick, I'm so proud of you! I still won though," she teased, scooping Nick up in her arms and giving him a kiss on the forehead. "Yeah, come to Mama, your favorite parent," she cooed, before giving me a smile. "Or do you want to say hi to Uncle Ace?"

I nodded, giving Shannon a wide grin as she handed Nick to me. "You really are just the cutest thing, you know that?" I said happily, patting Nick on the head. He gave me a toothless smile, eyes shining. Gene pulled Shannon onto his lap, kissing her as she murmured something in his ear, making his face light up. "Hey Ace, you wanna do us a favor and watch Nick? Just for like, uh...thirty minutes or something?"

"Yeah of course! That's what I'm here for!" I said, bouncing Nick on my knee. Giving me a grateful smile, Gene jumped to his feet, scooping Shannon up in his arms and practically running upstairs to their room, both of them giggling excitedly. I turned to Nick, picking the ball up off the floor and handing it to him. "Alright kiddo, let's go do something while your parents go and have some fun," I said, walking to the kitchen with him as he chucked the ball at the floor.

"Hm, what do you want to do?" I asked, giving him a look. Nick gave me another smile, melting my heart. "Dada!" Laughing, I shook my head, sitting at the table and sitting him on my leg. "Oh no, sprout, not me. Gene's your dad. As much as I love kids, I don't love the kind of people who I can have them with, you know? Nah, you don't, you're a baby! But hmm, what do we want to do?"

Nick looked at me for a second before starting to get fussy. "Mm, good idea, we'll get you something to eat. How do bananas sound?" His crying slowed down a bit so I took that as a green light and grabbed a banana, holding him on my hip as I mashed it up. "Okay ducky, here we go," I said, buckling him in his highchair and getting together a spoonful. "Open up!"

He had completely stopped crying at this point and took a bite, babbling in his own little language. "Mmhm. You said it curly," I said, giving him another bite. He kept talking to me and I nodded, raising an eyebrow. "Oh, absolutely. Gene can be stubborn, but he loves you with his whole heart. It's funny, you know? You're the tiniest little thing but Gene is putty in your baby hands."

We kept up with our conversation until he slapped the spoon out of my hand, yawning. I looked at my phone, grabbing a napkin and wiping off his face. "It is naptime, isn't it? Let's get you put to bed," I said gently. He rested his head against my shoulder with a tiny baby yawn. "You know Nick, Gene isn't the only one who's putty in your hands, because I would do absolutely anything for you," I said with a giggle, heading for the stairs before remembering that Nick slept in his parents room and his parents were using their room at the moment.

"Well. That puts a twist on things," I said, patting him on the back. "You think you can sleep on the couch?" Of course, being a baby, he didn't really have an answer, so I carried him back to the living room and sat down, lying him on the sofa next to me. "Okay you cutie, this is the best I can do for you right now. So close your eyes and go to sleep, how bout?"

Thankfully, Nick didn't seem to mind too much he was on the couch instead of in his bed, and dropped off to sleep pretty quickly. Like another half hour later, Gene walked downstairs, face still slightly red and still slightly out of breath. "Oh, thanks so much for watching him," he said quietly, picking Nick up. "I'll take him upstairs now." I grinned, jumping to my feet. "Yeah, I've got a date with Peter so I'm gonna head out, tell Shannon I said bye and I'll see you tomorrow!" I whispered back, giving him a parting wave and heading for the door.

The question was, how to I convince Peter to adopt a baby?
